Will Rolex Ever Change?????

Hi i really love the rolex brand the only thing that stops me from pulling the trigger on one is that i like bigger size watches and was wondering do you experts think rolex will make a bigger size sub i have seen the deep sea which is nice but very thick i actually own a omega planet ocean xl which is a great size for me so what do you think will happen at baselworld this year please tell me a bigger sub is on its way....

Personally, I think they have already changed too much. My interest basically stops after 5 digits.

I hope not and think they have it just right. Why fix what isn't broke? I think their sales and success speaks for itself IMHO.

I'm hoping the trend toward bigger and bigger watches is finally starting to reverse. I sympathise with guys who have 8" wrists, but my sense is that they are in the minority.

I am not Flavor Flav and don't need a wall clock on my wrist. This is just my opinion but thankfully Rolex and PP seem to think like me for the most part thus far.

I like big watches as well as my rolex's that's why they call it a collection. My hands down favorite big watch has to be my tag calibre 16 but I do have a Planet Ocean On the way. I still have a last gen explorer ii which I can't justify replacing just because the new one is 2mm bigger and has an orange gmt hourmarker... If you realy want a classy big watch I personally like the breitling for bently

The purists here despise 'change'. Truth is Rolex is LOSING sales daily because of their 40mm offerings. I have a few friends who simply were dissapointed with the sub due to its small size and passed for other brands. Rolex arent dummies....the explorer 42mm is just the beginning....sooner or later a 42mm sub will eventually appear. This said, I hope Rolex continues to offer the 40mm for 'purists' and 42mm for everyone else. best of both worlds.

Even the datejust 2 is offered at 41mm now

Patek offers a few 42mm AND 44mm models THERFORE clearly dont think like you. wake up.

Large watches are a trend I loathe. Men who wear them look absolutely rediculous. Rolex made me a little sad when they redesigned the Explorer2 with a 42mm case and the Explorer with a 39mm case. Fourty-two is the upper limit of what I consider tasteful. Rolex doesn't lend itself to fashion trends so as long as the rest of the li e stays under 42mm I will be happy and if not, there are plenty of vintage pieces to keep me satisfied for the next few decades.

DSSD is my limit. My SD does feel a tad small because I'm used to my 42mm PO but I like the 40mm size, just wish it had a maxi dial and hands.
With all the new sport models having the new dials I think the formula is perfect. The DSSD is a little thick but I love it's presence and how it sits. It's my next Rolex.

I vote for no change.

Where'd you read that Rolex was losing sales daily? Last thing I read indicated that they just had a banner year. The Seadweller and Explorer lines have never really been high sellers. I really doubt a Sub bigger than 40" will happen.

ive watched 3 friends pass on a rolex sub due to size

I'm 6'2 270 lbs with 23" arms,16.5" forearms and and 8" wrist and the sub is my favorite watch and the size is perfect. I can understand some people wanting a little bigger watch but to me it kind of looks silly when I see these giant watches that scream look at me. Just my opinion and no offense to anyone.i like the deepsea but its wrist presence is to much for me.

really? there has been multiple threads like this and only the 40mm purists freak out.

why do purists care so much if Rolex adds to their model offerings with different sizes??? Patek Phillipe doesent think this is a problem

So, no empirical evidence. It's based strictly on my observations of "What you wearing?" threads for twelve years now. The majority of wrists I see appear to be in the 7" to 7.5" range. Anything else I can explain for you? (also not sure why this makes me a "purist", whatever that is)

I'm 6'7", 42" arms, and yes, I'm Hulk Hogan On a serious note, I used to be a bigger watch guy. I then owned a DJ for a little while and disliked it initially due to its small size. After a while it grew on me and the only reason I sold it I because it was too "dressy" for me (and I should've initially gotten a Sub). Now that I have sub it's the perfect size (for me). I LOVE my SS Sub so much it's ridiculous. I own a Sub C as well which is a little fatter (lug and crown guard wise) but my SS is the perfect watch for me.

Joe, I think you've hit the nail on the head there with your remark. It all boils down to a difference between fashion and style. The classics Rolex has offered for years became classics because they were stylish. The move toward larger case sizes has been a response toward a fashion trend. If that trend holds, maybe the larger case sizes will come to seem stylish in time. For now (to my eye, at least), they seem to be at odds with the classic style.

When does super sizing a watch turn clownish?

Seems to me that the exploding size is more a fashion and marketing deal. Like the wide tie, narrow tie situation in fashion.
