Plexi Markings

Hi all,

I picked this one up yesterday, and at the time I did in fact notice this mark. But being my first plexi PAM I figured it was just a water droplet/mark which would easily wipe off as it looks like a splash of water. However when taking a few photo's this afternoon, I managed to pick it up in the right angle/light. Most of the time it's impossible to see. You almost need to get the light 'under' the plexi for it to be visible.

The weird thing is, while there are some very minor marks on the plexi from limited wear, which I know wont come off (without Polywatch), I don't think this is the same as the other minor hairline marks in the plexi. Perhaps it will come off with Polywatch but it looks very odd - like said it looks like a splash of water. Certainly nothing like a scratch. The whole 'centre' of the mark is smooth. As in, it's the same colour/tone etc. There are no scratches within in it.

Thought? Imperfection in the plexi? Moisture?

Thanks in advance.

Jay

I see it. Sort of looks sunburst shape. Maybe the plexi was banged flush on rather than scratched. Did you get the second plexi with the piece?

Maybe have a jeweler polish it out from the inside if you don't feel anything on the outside surface.

That is an odd one. Can you not tell if it is inside, outside or in the middle?

If it is on the outside, it would be easy to tell/fix. Use a tiny bit of poly and polish the plexi. It'll come off easy.

If it doesn't come off, it has to be in the middle or on the inside. If on the inside, I'd just be slightly worried as there could be something inside the watch.

A loop might help you out.

It's on the inside and has been suggested on another forum that its most likely an oil splatter.

It's going to have to go to Richemont.

My main concern is them thinking they can simply wipe it clean - which could very well leave a mark on the inside which I wont be able to remove.

At least marks on the outside can come off with polywatch. I will be strongly suggesting they replace the crystal under warranty.

Sorry it has to go back. I can't imagine Richemont wouldn't just slap on a new plastic crystal, rather than try to fix the old one. Plexi isn't expensive.

I had a similar issue on my old 249. Ultimately, it had to go back to PSC for a replacement crystal. I still don't know what caused it.

It looks like some sort of splash mark from a liquid

That's strange, but I never seen an oil spatter so large before - was it dropped? Even on a soft landing sometimes dropping it may cause it.

No never dropped etc. I can only think its happened before the crystal was installed.

I just noticed today there is another similar splash, though half the size, right in the middle of the crystal.

Did not notice it earlier because of the hands/cannon pin in the middle behind it.

Have you tried polishing the crystal yet?

No, I don't have any polywatch. Never had the need for it.

And other than the splashes, the crystal (and the case in fact) is flawless. Like new.
