Seeing some like vintage IWC auto's here ...
... and there was a bit of interest in my post regarding my recent acquisition of a Yacht Club and even though this is posted at TZ-UK, I thought I'd also give this older member of my watch box a bit of exposure here at TRF.
It is a Reference 1833 from that golden era for IWC - the 60's and 70's - and runs the prolific and reliable 8541b "engine". The dial is the silvered fantasia design and it is quite striking in the light. Most watch companies had these tonneau-styled cases during this period, though only some got the proportions just right. It came to me in 2006 with an IWC croco strap and IWC deployment - its been worn sparingly, though it does have some character lines here and there. However I could have cleaned the case and crystal surround except the pics were taken on the spur of the moment with my iPhone. For those who have had any experience with these movements, the timekeeping is just superb. I hope others like this style of wrist watch from what was a period when some very stylish and individualistic watches were designed and made. Cheers Richard |

That's gorgeous. I'd love to see a reissue of that watch.

Wow, very nice. I love the brushed stainless steel (?), monochromatic look.

This one doesn't get out often ...
I am still practising the photographic thing with watches, so thought it was an opportune time to show off a "sister" to the the Ref 1833 - this is a Ref 1828 with the same movement but a different case and dial configuration.
They are quite different to wear and that is aside from the bracelet versus strap factor. Apologies for the dust - I have to be more careful. Thanks for looking. Richard |

Cheers andyboy - funny you like it as do I, but I have had the occasional comment that it would look better on black. I have tried it and it actually makes watch/strap combo look a lot less interesting on the black.
It does help that the profile and quality of an IWC croco grain strap is really excellent. And with the brown versus the black, you get to enjoy the variation in the tones on the leather more I believe. |
