Now, I'm nervous

My jeweler hasn't been in to authenticate...not until tomorrow... but I purchased this watch

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200871982419...84.m1439.l2649

From 5555ferrari

Despite the guys stellar rep on eBay, I just found some disturbing discussion about this vendor here.

I was wondering if anyone could take a look at the pics and tell me what they think.

Thanks!

Nervous about what? He did say the dial and bezel were aftermarket. He has a great feedback score. Looks OK to me.

Anyway, tomorrow is today, so let us know what the jeweler said.

x2, besides a repainted dial, aftermarket diamonds added and an aftermarket bezel I see nothing wrong with it.

Well nervous about people saying he sells Frankenwatches and fakes. I agree about the score, that is why I was surprised by what I was reading on these forums.

Well, with all the changes and add ons from the original you could call it a Frankenwatch.

As for the aftermarket additions. I know having a dial refinished hurts the value a bit, but why the laughy icon...is that some sort of no no in the rolex world?

Forgive me but some of you seem kind of rude. Listen, I'm new to all of this no need to be smug. We all had to learn somewhere. When I think of Frankenwatches, I think about piecing together a watch from multiple incorrect sources...meaning rolex outer, jap movt, no matching parts etc. I'm personally ok with the diamonds, and rubies added...because my wife liked it. So, I'm ok with it. I'm not a watch flipper, nor do we plan to sell it. Its for my wifes enjoyment.

If the movement didn't match the datejust, non Rolex parts (that do not involve the aftermarket gems). Whether it's a fake, or incorrect. Not sure why the question is such a difficult one to answer. I'm questioning the vendor, because here one of your own said this guy sells fakes.

You should absolutely have the watch looked at, but I would not recommend using a jeweler unless they have a lot of experience with watches. I would take it to a watchmaker. My experience has been that jewelers will often either not know or they will say something is wrong with it because you did not buy it from them.

I once sold a woman a Patek Philippe Calatrava and her "reputable" jeweler told her it was a replica. I asked her to take it to Patek Philippe before she returns it, she did and was very satisfied with the results and kept it.

A watchmaker can usually tell you whats what with your watch including which parts if any are aftermarket.

(I didn't actually look at the pictures when I wrote this, but the pictures seem to match the description and the seller seems good)

You must be a very lucky man to want to buy your wife such a nice gift. Cheers

I hear you. I was just a bit upset with the situation after reading a thread here about this vendor. For me, it's not funny...just looking for a bit of information.

Refinished dials are pretty frowned upon by many purists, yeah. But, if it's a watch you plan on wearing and abusing and you get it at an appropriate price, more power to you. Aftermarket anything, particularly diamonds, are also often frowned upon due to the lower resale value and usually noticeably lower quality than diamonds set flawlessly by Rolex from the factory. But again, if it's a watch you intend to wear thoroughly and you didn't pay all-original price, enjoy the hell out of it!

Sorry, I missed that before I responded. That was a response to the comment about it being a Frankenwatch and then pointing at my post with laughter. Forgive me if I misunderstood your intent.
