I got picked when I was young. I'm going to say maybe 1970 or 71. My best friend and I drove from our homes in the D.C. suburbs up to Baltimore. There was a section of town there called the "block", full of strip clubs. After ordering our first round at the bar we discovered neither of us had any money in our wallets. They were good as they obviously took the money and replaced our wallets. This was before the wide use of credit cards. Their distraction method was certainly effective on a couple of young teenage marks. So we went home and did this and this: and then this

I'm sure they will answer, "don't carry anything or wear anything you don't want stolen". But that's not always possible. Is there anything we can do to make it more difficult?

Scary.
