Ok, this is an old thread, but being a massive Magnum pi fan, I'd like o contribute a bit.

The Series started November 1980 and Magnum wore a CHRONOSPORT Sea Quartz 30 in the first 3 years

The GMT watch was introduced in the episode "Home from the Sea", Season 4, Episode1, which aired in the US 29 September 1983
So, one can assume that the production of season 4 took place earlier, end of 1982 or beginning of 1983.

According to
http://www.gmtmasterhistory.com/gmt-..._ref_1675.html

the 1675 was discontinued 1980 and was replaced by the 16750 in 1981.

Together with the new-style-bracelet (non-folded), this leads me to the conclusion, that the MPI Rolex is a 16750.

Having spoken with a high-profile collector (who claims to own the original watch but refuses to show me pics - but he certainly knows a lot of people from the production unit), there was a specific watch purchsed by the production company, which was stored away after shooting.

Looking at your picture it appears to be a 16750. I used to watch Magnum all the time and would not be suprised if more than one watch was used over the years. Without that picture I would have guessed it was a 1675. Here is my 16750 from 1982 to compare.

Thomas wears a GMT that's inherited from his father, who was shot down while flying for the USN in the Korean conflict. the story is in " Home from the Sea", one of the greatest episodes ever
