Rejected Rolex offer...
Informal poll:
I have the SS/Plat Yahtmaster 40mm and I LOVE IT!! Would it be dorky to get my wife the same watch in a womens size? I think it would look neat and be complimentary but... My wife has also told me that she does NOT want a Rolex, fine timepieces are my thing and she would rather have jewelry (boring). I personally believe that a Rolex cannot be appreciated until you have one that is yours, on your wrist. Her current time-teller is a Citizen Eco-Drive. Neat watch I guess but the fact that I have a Rolex entitles her to one (IMO) and the fact that she deals with medical doctors on a daily basis in a sales relationship tells me she NEEDS a Rolex. Lots of MD's have Rolex watches and a good discussion starter may be an appreciation for fine timepieces. Am I just projecting my love for Rolex and should I get her something that she does not realize she really "needs". I have gotten her to try on some lady Rolex watches and she consitantly picks out the Oyster Date with the "coin edge" bezel in SS, while saying she does not need such a nice watch. I have one, she should too! All Psych Doctor opionions are welcome... |

Buy the one that have diamond in it. For sure if she didn't like the watch. I am sure she wouldn't mind the diamond that come with it.

Kevin your wife has told you she doesn't want a Rolex, I'd listen to her & buy her jewellery
I know exactly where you coming from, I've been there myself & bought my wife watches she never wears, I think we need a shrink to tell us why we feel our partners should have them as well, perhaps it could be guilt or some sort of validation issue, I dunno. |

Kevin,
Go with the flow. I tried the same with my wife. I have ordered a SS GMTIIc from my AD. I was trying to convince my wife of the 'fine' benefits of a Rolex time piece. All I can say is each to their own. My wife also wears a Citizen ecodrive watch also. I have finally convinced to her to upgrade her watch. I am waiting on a black Rado Ceramica Jubliee ladies watch to come in from overseas. She fell in love with that watch. Watches and jewellery are a very personal thing. Mind you, my wife did 'love' the look of the SS GMTIIc for me. I've been with my wife for almost 29 years and it was a bit of struggle to actually convince her to upgrade to a nice Rado. My wife is professionally employed also and mixes with various types of people too. I really feel that even though your wife mixes with doctors and the like, do you feel that she NEEDS a Rolex. I have no doubt that your wife is very competent in her own field, so why is it necessary to show off a great time piece like a Rolex. It's obvious that your wife can get the job done even without wearing a Rolex. Forgive me for saying this, but is it more what you want rather than what she really wants. |

Has she actually worn the watch to see what it feels like?
On another note, would wearing a Rolex on sales calls give the impression that she was charging them too much?

From the sounds of things, you're better off buying jewelry for her. You may appreciate the Rolex on her, but most likely she will under appreciate it.
And even though I wear a Rolex and have clients who wear Rolexes, it is rarely a discussion starter. And a lot of times, just because someone wears a Rolex doesn't mean they have a passion for it. To a lot of people, it's just a luxury item and status symbol. Another thing to think about is what if the roles were reverse? How would you feel if your wife wanted to give you jewelry such as a ring, bracelet or necklace when you would prefer a Rolex? |

My wife is the same...not so interested in Rolex. If it's a watch she wants then take her watch shopping and let her pick out a watch she loves. This way, you will know that she's going to wear it. Good luck.

It's not about you- it's about her. And, i don't believe anyone "needs" a Rolex to be successful in any given field including sales. You may be projecting on her a bit. If a certain watch gives you confidence, that's great. But for her, she sounds as if she finds confidence in other ways. I assumes she already does fine dealing with medical professionals. I always find it best to give gifts that make the other person happy. My 2 cents (I'm a psychotherapist).
Happy holidays. Jess |

My wife has a TAG quartz.....she loves it. She thinks a Rolex is ostentatious. I accept her opinion as it applies to her only.

I've offered to buy my wife a Rolex after she fell in love with my ss DateJust. Even offered to let her wear the DateJust. But she said "No thanks, not my thing. Looks good on you though".

Trust me your wife does not need a rolex for medical sales. Honestly, most reps are selected based on looks/attractiveness. I have yet to see an ugly rep. I don't think the YM is going to help with sales or secure any contracts. You don't need any excuses to get her the watch. If you want her to have it, get it.

I think you have 3 choices:
1. Buy her a new Rolex (I like the idea above with the diamond dial) - make sure the AD will take it back if she doesn't like it. 2. Buy a used Rolex in a similar style AND some jewelry. 3. Buy another fine (new or uded) Swiss watch (Omega DeVille or Seamaster?) at a lower cost point AND some jewelry. The Omega is more understated, but readily known to any watch enthusiast, and you get "more bang for your buck!" It may work as a gateway to a Rolex in years ahead!

Listen to your wife. She knows what she wants. Unless she sells Rolexes for a living, owning a Rolex really won't help her career.
As a side note, I would also point out to her that Rolexes ARE jewelry! If keeping time was a primary concern, we would all be wearing cheap digital watches. I personally have no appreciation for fine antique pottery. Just because someone help appreciates it, doesn't mean they should buy some for me. |

I think it depends on why she says what she says. In some cases it is the "frugal person" talking because it does cost more than some of our sensibilities allow..
However, Mrs. Tools spends a bit of time at the country club, and she has a few social/lunch groups that she attends weekly. Almost all of the women in these groups sport ladies DJ's, Presidents, and Pearlmasters (the majority are TT DJ's).. Whether they have more expensive jewelery or not, more expensive watches or not....it is proper wrist wear for lunch, shopping, or the club... So look around at her social circle, make a conscious decision...make sure it is a gift for an occassion rather than - "Here, I've got one so you get one too." type of arrangement..

my wife could care less about a rolex, although i have offered many times. I respect that and see no need to convince her otherwise.

Rejected Rolex offer...
My wife always stood to the side and "tolerated" my Rolex addiction.....Always rejecting my offers to acquire one for her...."A watch just isn't that important to me" she would often say...
Then..... I came home with a beautiful Z-Series Ladies Datejust in a Salmon dial. It hasn't been off her wrist since ! Good luck ! Mike |

I've been married for 34 years, and firmly believe that you should listen to your wife. If she says she doesn't want a Rolex, I'd go with that.
My wife works with medical professionals all day too, and she wears a quartz Movado museum watch. She loves it and says that she receives many compliments on it because it is slim, sleek and uncomplicated. She and I both think that the "bigger is better" watch fad will fade soon and folks will return to a smaller, lighter watch that simply tells the time. If you want to spend money on your wife and give her something that the doctors will appreciate, buy her a great pair of high heels. Nothing gets a doc's attention like the sound of heels in the office. LOL For the price of a Rolex you can get her about 10 pairs of REALLY nice heels. |

Hi Kevin,
You have great taste in watches. I love the SS Pt. YM too - what a beautiful looking watch that no amount of pics can do it justice. As for the wifey.....get her what SHE wants - not what you think she needs. At the end of the day, her happiness is all that really matters, my friend!! Merry Christmas!!

I've offered to buy my wife some sort of Rolex at least a dozen times, but she is not interested. The last couple of time we looked, she has been interested in either an Omega or Oris. I'll probably get her one of these for our anniversary. Maybe a Rolex will be in her future later on down the line.

I have offered to buy my wife a Rolex and she has declined on numerous occasions.
The funny thing is, she also has a Citizen Eco-drive which would seem to be the watch of choice for a lot of the ladies judging by this thread. I have bought her a solid gold watch for this Christmas with diamonds in it and I know it will get worn more than any Rolex. Maybe it's a bling thing..............? |

I am a female, therefore diamond always is my best friend.
was carelessness about expensive watch before because I thought a watch is a watch no more no less period I would rather spend on quality diamonds than junk stuffs; and watch is failed in this category on my opinion. For the time being, am kind of boring with the diamond bangle, I have tried to find something fire me up.... And Rolex is the one. Now, love my Rolex which goes along with the diamond ring I wear daily. personally, I think if your wife likes diamond, the DJ with diamond dial would make her day |

Buy her what she wants...not what you want. It will show that you care and are listening to her. Plus a ladies YM is alot of coin and you would hate to be wrong with that amount of $$.

funny post in relation to my situation... every time i buy a watch, she buys one too... if i buy rolex she wants one too, if i buy omega she wants one too, however, she still wears her favorite cartier santos ( not a bad watch, but considering what else she has ) despite buying a date, 2 dj's and 4 omega's. in another post, i was looking for a dress watch and one my choices was the SS/plat YM as well and she wants me to buy one so she can buy the same exact thing, and as one of the other posters said "tacky". so, i'm looking at other watches as well without a counterpart woman's version. if i decide to get the ss/plat YM, and if she still wants one, i'll convince her to get the tt version instead so we won't have the same exact watch....
