I was contacted by a person on TRF...

I was contacted by a person through PM this morning regarding the WTB thread that I started.

The person has zero posts, has joined 10 days ago on the 21st, and judging from his statistics, his last action was to send me the pm in question.
I've only dealt with reputable members so far.. and this situation is, for the lack of a better word, scary to me..

what do you think? am i overreacting?

Not at all. Looks suspicious to me. Good thing you did not include an email or phone number in your WTB.

Very common. Scammers trolling the WTB posts. They always have exactly what you are looking for. Be careful out there.

There is one way to deal with this:

Tell him that, as you have much TRF seniority over him, he sends the watch first and you send payment later. Problem finished and you may even end up with a nice watch. Who knows?

Simple.
Ask him to set the watch to 11:23 13:44 9:37 etc... Put at least 5 times, to be made in the same background, and the same date.
Also post his username here.
Take care.

I see the point in making sure he has the watch he pretends to have, but still you are not sure he is going to send it to you after you send the money to him.

Why post his user name?

As far as we know he could be perfectly legit.

No, not overreacting. It's right to be extremely cautious.

A solution: Tell him that if he wants to sell to you, he can become an active member long enough to post the watch in the FS section, along with his verifiable references. This way, he's posted online by his own steam, establishing some footprint. Any legit seller is able to do so.

I get tons of these notes lately, all with zero posts. I've just been ignoring lately since they have all proven to be a PIA.

same person (confirmed) emailed me and told me they could get me a 116518 (yellow gold with newman black dial) with a stainless steel bracelet. I told them it does not come on a stainless bracelet and they said they could get it that way. They might not be a scammer but they definitely are clueless when it comes to Rolex's. I would suggest staying away.

The person, in his third pm, (after i let him know of my uncomfortability) suggested we use a third party escrow. I replied that i am open to the idea as long as that person is a reputable member of trf. That was two days ago and i've not heard a reply

You were right to be cautious. The member concerned did not respond to my valid and reasonable requests after being given ample time. He has now left the building.

As a note to everyone: by the seller. Anyone with a low post count and no references is clearly not a good idea.
