This is going to turn out to be a real mess. Sad that some of the suspected matches included World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, two Champions League ties and "several top football matches in European leagues". Such a disappointment.

I would be very careful about jumping to conclusions based on this or amy other report. "Suspected", "alleged" etc. do not mean that anyone has been found guilty.

And Marc, 425 suspected fixed games across Europe, where tens of thousands of games are played each week, does not mean that "everyone" is cheating. Perspective please.

With cheating I mean that whenever there is money involved . . . . people try to bend things . . . in another direction . . . and mostly to the negative side . . .

And with everyone . . . I mean in all kind of different sports . . .

Here's an example of a case that happened in my hometown . . . they can't find Ye anymore . . . case closed . . .

Well I have read another article on this and the are actually 680 matches being looked into. The matches in question, some of which have already been subject to successful criminal prosecutions, were played between 2008 and 2011, the investigators said. About 380 of the suspicious matches were played in Europe, and a further 300 were identified in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

So some people have already been prosecuted. And you are right thousands of soccer matches are played every year but to me if one match is even fixed that is too many. Calls into question every game!

There are ca. 48 countries in Europe, each with dozens of leagues, ranging from the top professional leagues to the regional semi-professional leagues. Include Cups, reserve teams of professional teams, and you are looking at tens of thousands, especially at the moment when most teams are playing twice a week.

A secret - not everything you read is true

Agree that one instance of cheating is too much but crime can never be eliminated, it can only be controlled.

I still think tens of thousands a game a week is a bit high. You could count just kids kicking around a soccer ball in their backyard and I still don't think you could get to that number.

Either way it's a shame that there is any type of cheating in this form or any form in sports. If they do get caught they should be banned from the sport for life anyone involved.

Your point about math is missing the point that these were some top level matches.

Agreed not everything you read is true but I tend to believe this specific investigation considering it is coming directly from Europol. Why would Europol make up a story like this?

Doesn't surprise me...there is so much money involved.

If FIFA has been doing it for years, why not UEFA!

Well, I am not saying it isn't true... and there definitely IS cheating going on in the world of sports, but the scope of this... 600 or so games?! Wow... I find that a little hard to believe that it would have taken this long to be discovered.
