No idea but since it dropped the value from $95 to $50 it must be an important part.

btw i think he was using "vintage" parlance... I think it was known as the "spin dial" in the 40's...Then it was renamed as part of a larger marketing scheme in the 60's to " time changing thingamabob".... Then in the 80's in a much lesser effective marketing strategy as the "side watch case tumor" It has a new name now but the name escapes me.. :)
