Second Thoughts On My Band Choice....

I purchased a new SS Datejust w/ silver face, diamond dial, and jubilee band overseas at a duty free store.

I've been browsing the forum and was surprised at how much I like the oyster band on the datejust. I find it more appealing than the jubilee.

My watch is brand new and I haven't even been sized for it. Will I be able to trade in the jubilee band for an oyster band in a straight exchange with an AD? Or will I end up paying a bit out of pocket?

I think that it is unlikely that an AD will do anything for you.. But I really don't know.

You'll have to pay. They will have to sell it as a used watch and still make some margin on it to make it worth their while. You may want to price out an Oyster bracelet as it may be more cost-effective to buy that alone rather than trade. Plus, then you will own 2 bracelets. BTW, my personal thoughts are to keep the DJ with the Jubilee and get your next Rolex with the Oyster, especially if you'll ever want a Sub/SD, GMT, Exp, Cosmograph, etc., since all the sport models only come with the Oyster.

I tell you, the jubilee band is extremely comfortable. I don't own one but I have tried them on and they feel great compared to a oyster band, IMO.

I'm guessing that since you have a diamond dial, you have a WG bezel. That really goes well with the jubilee. For an oyster to be on a DJ, you need a plain bezel IMO.

Stick with the jubilee - it's the classic DJ look

I believe that either way you look at it, changing to an oyster will cost you money.

You can't beat the Jubilee on a Datejust. They were made for each other.

After careful consideration I've decided to return the Datejust. I decided that it wasn't right for me. I was afraid that I would never wear it and that it would end up living in the box rather than on my wrist.

That said, I ended up picking up a 16610 M serial Submariner. The sub was my top original choice, but unfortunately it wasn't available the first time around. I'll detail this ordeal in a new thread. Can't wait to officially receive it at the airport on my way back home~

Anyways, I'm now even more happy with my purchase and will enjoy wearing the hell out of it.

As others have said, it is highly unlikely that an AD will just swap the bracelet if you didn't buy the watch from them.

Preference for bracelet style is, of course, very personal and there are no 'rights' or 'wrongs'. I have always preferred the Jubilee on my GMT and have found it very comfortable and reliable. Given that you won't get back what the Jubilee is worth, why not bite the bullet and just buy an Oster bracelet and then you've got both?

Glad you got that worked out, hoppa. The Jubilee is more comfortable IMHO, but it really does go better in TT rather than SS, and as CEG points out, it goes much better with a fluted bezel than an Oyster bracelet does.
