First post, advice needed 16013

Dear members,

This is my first post. I received an old 16013 from a family member. He says the watch is approximately 20-30 years old. He told me I could wear it or sell it, whatever I prefer.

The problem is this:

1. The watch has not been serviced in these years.
2. It looks pretty beat up (I will post pictures if needed)
3. The plexiglass has scratches and even a few tears.
4. No papers, box etcetera.
5. No extra links, it fits a 7" wrist.

What should I do?
1. Keep it and get it fully serviced (would set me back around 1000 euros right?)
2. Sell it, for who knows how much..
3. I plan on buying an Omega planet ocean chrono 9300. Maybe trade it in?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

If you want to keep it, send to rolex for repair quote and go from there.

Sounds like you don't care for it.

Spend as little as you can to fix it up and sell it.

1. There are plenty of unofficial people who can service it; try Rikki here on TRF.

2. A proper service will clean this up.

3. Easily replaced; also part of a proper service.

4. Doesn't matter.

5. Easily found on eBay.

If you like it, get it service and wear it. If you don't sell it.

Sounds like you have your sights on another watch? But I guess if you could see potential in the 16013, maybe you'd keep it.

Or the money you'd spend restoring it would be better off with the piece you already set your heart on?

I would go to a local watch maker instead of RSC for the mechanical and crystal replacement. But polishing and stuff like that, if you have the time, it's really quite satisfying. I got mine in pretty bad shape and here is the work in progress ...

Keep it for 3 months and see if it grows on you. The 16013 is a great classic piece.
