Price help please!!!
I was at Jared today looking at a Omega Seamaster (blue dial). This is not the AD I normally use!!!!!!
Anyway, the list on the watch is $2150 and they offered a 15% discount. Is this ok or should I try for a better discount!

I say screw the discount ... save your $$ for another year and get a rollie!! Unless you'r'e dying to get an omega, it is is another issue ... for me, I am rolex man all the way ... even if the omega is 80% off, I won't buy it ... even if I did buy it, i'll keep looking for that crown and the "ROLEX" name on it....

Robb.
That's a beautiful watch..Omegas are in demand more and more. Also the sword hands are getting harder to find.. I've heard about 30% discounts, but I have never seen that in my neck of the woods.. Check around at a couple of more places..then pick the best one.. Also, you could go back and say you are interested, but you have a better deal elswhere...can you do better ?... The worst they could say is no..

Wow, I was thinking about picking up that same Omega today. The only concern I had... I've heard people complain about Omega's service center. The watch is great up to the point when you need to bring it in for its first service? Anyone have any experience with Omega watches and service? I've heard Omega USA's service center (in NJ?) is lacking compared to the Rolex Service Centers. I assume that there are a network of in-house watchmakers at Omega ADs, but it's just concerning to spend $1500 to know that it's only good for 5 years.
Thoughts? Opinions? |

My grail watch right now is the very limited run only sold in Japan stainless steel Blue bezel black face Submariner date. I don't know much about that particular watch, but that would be the Sub I'd kill for.
This Omega is probably the closest I'll get to a Blue sub. It's a real looker. I got a bunch of Rolexes but something about a blue dial blue face (and sorry JJ, not talking about "bluesy" here) that really makes it pop! |

Omega is a top notch watch. allthough there is some work that could be done in their service area....
However, since the automatic watch, and sending it for service, is a pretty new concept for folks, good watchmakers are having trouble catching up. There are options though....just like there are with a Rolex.. An issue with getting a new Seamaster serviced is the unique pressure testing machine...it's not common outside the service centers.. Anyway....get one....

I would suggest you buying a used rolex for a little more. Omegas, tags and breitlings have the worst resale i have ever seen. I paid close to $3k for a tag carrera and about a year later all i could get was $1k.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am waiting for Rolex to update the Sub. Other than that the only Rolex's I am after right now have a wait (SS Daytona white, Milgauss GV). I love Rolex and will never stray from it but this Omega is calling my name!! I think

But, I do hear you about resale value. I had a Tag Heuer 6000 with gold accents. I paid ~$1500 back in the mid-90s. I just dumped it on fleabay for $850 a month or so ago (after 10 years of ownership). I don't usually resell things I purchase or do I think about flipping watches. I sold it because it was part of a matching pair with an ex-gf and my wife wasn't too keen on me keeping it. Anyways... I think $1500 for this Omega isn't bad. And I'm truly anticipating the update to the Sub. (Please be this year... please!!!) |

I have both a black titanium chronograph and a titanium omega chronometer. Wouldn't trade the omegas. Blue in the omega is beautiful. You wont regret it. I picked my watches up from Prestigetime.com. Great prices and they shipped the same day.

My AD is also a RSC certified watchmaker....from Dallas RSC moved to the NW to enjoy our outdoor heaven up here....and he services Omega as well. IF you want, I will send you his information and you can call or email the AD and arrange for your Omegas to be serviced. I am taking my SMP to be serviced this summer, 5 years after getting it.

I will second JJ's words. Go for a better discount.
Very nice Omega, btw., but also remember that Omegas depreciate drastically in value if you want to re-sell it later on. Best of luck!

Robb, you have flipped some superb Rolex watches this year. With the resale on Omegas being quite low you may want to take a minute.....
Mind you, I know you also like to keep your watches pristine, so getting an Omega as a beater could be a great option. You could then keep your Rollies box fresh ! |
