Noob Requires Assistance: ADs in Washington State

*** Warning: First Post ***

Newbie Needs Assistance...

I'm planning a trip to Washington State (I live in Canada) and would like to take advantage of the (relatively) high Canadian dollar.

I'm attempting to compare prices on a Sea Dweller at home and in Washington.

I am looking for ADs in the Seattle area and in Spokane. I know Ben Bridge in Seattle is an AD, but are there others?

(I've looked on the Rolex site, but it will only display Canadian ADs... It's not a bad mapping feature (who knew Lethbridge has an AD?), pity it won't let me switch counties.)

I bought my first Rolex in Bellevue, WA (just across the pond from Seattle) called Alvin Goldfarb Jewelers. It's a small family run store, and they do discount. Give him a shout!

Are Canadians required to pay Washington sales tax? Oregonians are exempt.

Yes, you'll pay sale tax at the retail level, regardless of where you live. If they ship it out of state, or out of the country, then no sales tax.

I used to drive to OR to shop, but I hated making that drive from Seattle, just to save on sales tax.

Well, I was just in Seattle last month shopping for a watch and was told by the AD that as an Oregonian I was exempt from Washington sales tax. All I had to do was produce my drivers license. I've lived in Oregon for 25 years, about 10 miles from the border, and had no idea I was exempt from WA sales tax.

Unfortunately, they didn't have the watch I was looking for.

As an aside, although I work in downtown Portland, I was overwhelmed by downtown Seattle and felt very much the country bumpkin there. Downtown Seattle is freakin' HUGE! But very nice.

Hmm, he was definately misinformed about the sales tax thing...but that would have been GREAT for you! Legally, they can put your OR addy on the invoice, and say it was shipped to you, or delivered to you. Of course, if they ever got audited, that would have to produce some evidence that the watch actually shipped to you out of state.

Downtown Portland is pictureque....gorgeous. It's just a smaller version of Downtown Seattle. :)

I live in Alberta, Canada. Alberta has no "state" sales tax. We have an agreement with Washington State and do not have to pay Washington State Tax (we do, however, have to pay an import tax (federal) crossing the border).

So there is no advantage to me going to Portland (thanks for the thought, though).

Sharif: thanks - I'll give Alvin G. a call

Another vote for Alvin Goldfarb

I bought my no date Submariner at their downtown store. They are great.

If you visit, tell them I recommended them, they'll be glad to hear there's a satisfied customer pulling for them.

Good luck with your search.

Agree. Discounts are hard to come by in Washington and you have to pay sales tax.

My AD will discount and no sales tax. Come down to Portland and I will hook you up.

I wish I could as I hear Portland is beautiful.

However I will only be in Seattle for 2 days and can't make the trip south.

Thanks for the offer, though. If I don't get one this time around I may have to make a special trip... I can hear the call of the Sea (Dweller).
