Is the new GMT 116710 coming out with a Red/Blue or Red/Black Bezel Insert?
If so will the green 24 hour hand and green writing on the dial currently being used change to a different colour? Green is not a colour I'd want on a watch.

This question's been brought up often here since the introduction of the SS GMT IIc. I guess Rolex will add a coloured bezel insert option at some point, but when this is going to happen, no one but Rolex knows.
It has been rumoured that Rolex has (had) problems with bonding the blue and red colour to create a "ceramic pepsi" bezel insert, but if it comes, it would probably looks something like this (a Photoshop job):

Nobody knows. They apparently believe the ceramic is enough of an upgrade to justify ending production on a blue/red bezel.
They've got a blue one because it's on the YMII. Whether they can do red, and whether they can do a two-color ceramic bezel, nobody knows. My understanding is that the black or blue is the actual color of the ceramic insert; it's not painted. As for the green, I believe green on a Rolex watch is used to signify an anniversary edition, as is the case with the LV submariner and the 50th anniversary green face for the solid gold GMTII. I doubt they'd continue to use green with the red/blue, so I kind of expect the 24 hour hand to be returned to its traditional red and the lettering on the face to be returned to the traditional white, when and if the ceramic "Pepsi" comes out. |
