Comet Panstars
Did anyone see the comet at sunset. I tried and failed tonight. It should be easier to spot tomorrow with it being next to the crescent moon Tuesday.

Too cloudy here to have a chance. Hoping for better weather the next couple of days.

Too cloudy :( Some impressive pictures from the southern hemisphere though. We've got our next shot at a potentially much more impressive one in November.

The comet visible over the next few days is a once in 100,000 year event. Much different thing...size of Manhatten.

For those of us in the NE US, the only way we get to enjoy cosmic beauty is if they show some on TV.
On the other hand, we don't worry much about droughts, scorpions and earthquakes.

True, comets are fairly regular visitors in our skies...

Ah yea, def. And pretty neat to think how far (and long) it has traveled for us to see it for a few days, and then boom, gone for a loonnng time!

I have high quality 15x binoculars which I put on a tripod for celestial viewing. Not as good as a telescope but pretty good for special events such as this. I have seen the moons of Jupiter with this setup, but not the rings of Saturn unfortunately.

I am going to try to photograph it tonight. If I get a decent photo, I will post it.

Please do. I was just out for about 30 mins for a looksee - I couldn't see a thing, despite a decent enough view of the horizon. Must really need non-metro area skies.

Unfortunately, the previously clear skies clouded up and I didn't see a thing. There should be a few more opportunities yet this week.

We just got back from the McDonald Observatory in West Texas. We had perfect weather (clear, little wind and no moon!). Panstars was somewhat visible as the sun set, but not for long.

I saw the comet last night from a parking garage with my 11" SCT. I tried again to find it tonight from a different location and was unsuccessful.

Wow that is dim, Clark. How much light pollution were in those skies? Nice capture though!

I was pretty much downtown houston on a 9 story parking garage. The sun had barely gone down. The pic was taken about 8:08 central time

Oh that makes sense, being in a city.
Here's a beautifully composed shot from APOD: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130314.html

Great photo, Clark. Rivals the best I've seen.
