opinions please
My freind has a rolex 1995 gmt ll black dial, solid 18k yellolw gold, box papers, ect. The band is original hollow rivet oyster in 85% condition and the head is also in 85% but needs a crystal. I can buy the watch for $7,000.00. I really like the watch but in my opinion the band just does not look right on the watch. Do you guys think this is a good deal for the watch, and if I sell the original band and get a solid gold oyster band how much is the orinal band worth and how much can i pick up a solid 18k gold band for, original or aftermarket? Thanks for your comments.

Any chance you can get a picture or two? That would help a bunch with opinions.

Welcome to TRF!
First, the deal sounds fine to me, but I would keep the original (if it indeed IS original) bracelet. I know that a YG bracelet for the Day-Date is US $ 11,000, so a YG bracelet for a GMT II would be around the same amount.

Sounds very reasonable. Actually a little on the cheaper side. Keep in mind you may want to have $500 set aside for a service (probably has not had one).

I think the price is very good if it's all original. Most Gold-GMT's came with the jubilee band.

With a $7K purchase, plus $1-1.5K in service and repairs (high side), you'd be in the watch at $8.5K worst case.
That's a very good price for a solid 18K GMT II on a bracelet, assuming the bracelet has all its links. And I'd keep the original bracelet on it. If you must change it out, keep the original bracelet intact, and get some solid 18K aftermarket replacement...going the original Rolex route on the bracelet is way expensive. |
