question about sellers on the Rolex watch board

Why do sellers delete the pictures and price of the watches after they sell? I read the rules and didn't see it as a requirement (although, i may have missed it). As a nubie, I look at both currently FS ads and the sold ads so that I can get an idea of the value of pre-loved Rolexs.

Thanks
Caspian

I believe most of us here use photobucket (or similar). As such, if the pic is deleted from one's library, the public can no longer access the pic?

Sometimes fraudulent sellers will lift legit photos and use them elsewhere, like eBay to sell a watch that does not exist. That's the main reason people probably delete pics. You'll also notice that most of the higher volume trusted sellers create water mark signatures on all their pics, a good way to mitigate the fraud potential.

couldn't a fraudulent seller just steal a pict of a watch currently for sale? The watermark is a good move. From a nubie perspective trying to learn prices/values to make an informed decision, it sucks. But, it is the sellers right.

Yep, they can.

But you only get one side of the market doing this - the asking price. You do not get the final value agreed upon during negotiations.

TRF isn't a pricing service - but you can look at the same models you see here in eBay's completed listings that resulted in a sale. It will show the price paid or if best offer was used.

For me, sellers who delete the pictures are helping TRF keep storage levels down on the server(s).

You're correct, TRF isn't a pricing service, but in my short time here, I have found it a great place to learn. Part of that is determining a base value.

Caspian, I haven't sold anything here so I'm not familiar withe posting in that section, but I wasn't aware that the ability to edit a post was any different in that section of the forum (i.e. 100 minutes).

While it's possible that pictures are deleted if they were posted over from photo bucket or some similar site, you might want to make sure you are looking at the original listing thread. Many sellers here post a separate "sold" thread to announce an item is sold. Typically these will have the same thread title but with the word "SOLD" in the title and the post will only say sold and thank-you. But the original listing in a separate thread will still contain the pics (possibly), the price, and the item details.

Not necessarily. Pics can be uploaded to TRF straight from your computer.
