What happened to Mitsubishi cars?
and Electronics also?
Back in the late 80's I bought a used Mitsubishi mighty max truck as a second car with about 12k miles on it and drove it to 80k miles and never had any problems with it other than the clutch going out twice. Back then (mid 80's) I had a Mitsubishi T.V. and VCR and from what I remember Mitsubishi made some of the best TV's and higher end electronics which now from what I read has gone to Samsung and LG. I looked for Mitsubishi TV's at a best buy and could not find one of anything....and same goes for cars and SUV's .....its a rare sight to see one or even a dealer now days. One of my old girlfriends bought a 1991 Galant and I like it so much that when came time for me to buy a new car it would be high on my list. I was talking with a guy at 10 Downing st cigar bar in Houston last night and he told me he read something about Mitsubishi was talking about pulling out of U.S. market.....along with Suzuki. Reason 'Im asking is my wife's grand kid was looking at buying an Outlander Sport....because its a low cost/cheap SUV that is geared towards his age group. I told him I would ask around first and see if they are going to leave U.S. market and that 100k mile warranty might not work out so well. I could find anything solid on the net....but its worth asking about. |

I had a Galant in the 80's I loved it...
TV too, it was great, not sure, guess they just couldn't keep up with market and technological changes?

Love the Evo.
Not much of a dealer network anymore. It's a shame.

After doing some reading
http://www.autoblog.com/2013/02/12/m...keting-budget/
If Mitsubishi is looking for a market to own they should bring back the Mighty Max compact truck.....only competition is a Tacoma and for over 19k starting price you dont get much bang for your buck. Nissan only makes double cabs and extended cabs now and they start at 21k and again you dont get much for 21k. I was looking at the Outlander Sport in Blue like the one my wife's grand kid wants and it not a bad deal for the money....I kinda like the looks of them now. |

Mitsu dies when they got retired the jewel of the 4G63. Granted they tried before that to totally destroy it with reverse implementation but if there ever was a near indestructible small motor, that was it. No 4g63?- Mitsu can die

Suzuki pulled their cars out of the US market a while ago...http://www.newsday.com/classifieds/c...t-11-1.4194145
Mitsubishi is suffering from their Chrysler re-badging relations. Now Fiat-based Dodge versions are replacing volume that Mitsu had previously. http://jalopnik.com/5962789/the-hot-...and-mitsubishi Ergo, the need to double-down and push the badge harder here. Problem always was that the Mitsubishi line was more expensive for essentially the same performance as the American badged versions (except for the Evo line).

Mitsubishi wanted to be the "big screen" TV company and bet heavily on large projection TV's, and limited their market appeal with that move. Big fan...my first VCR (over $1000) and great TV's were Mitsu's. But the branding limited their reach, and they missed the transition.
Loved my 1989 Galant as well. Judging by their presence at the latest auto show, they are on their last legs in the US market. Very cheapest space on the floor, and the products didn't compare well. When I think of Mitsubishi, I think of GE. A huge conglomerate of manufacturing companies. Consumer electronics or personal transportation (as opposed to industrial) are not the mainstay of their business model.

The 3000 GT (below) was a nice car, and then later the Lancer-based EVO cars
They are still a pretty active company in Aus

I'm thinking it must have been in the Eighties. My dad had a Mitsubishi Galant in the early 2000s. He had to have the on-board computer replaced, which was rather expensive.
