Submariner - The #1 Living Legend?

http://www.ablogtowatch.com/top-10-l...atches-to-own/

Gents, just came across this interesting article and thought I'd share (search did not have this in forum previously.) Thoughts:
  1. Happy to see Submariner #1. Curious they chose picture of ND version with Rehaut engraved?
  2. Datejust comes in at #5
  3. Surprised Daytona not in top 10, however Daytona was a "Notable runner-up"
  4. As noted in comments, some of the prices of the other watches seem higher than MSRP.

In terms of a military watch the article just missed the mark.
IWC has a much steeped history and involvement in military watches.
Glashutte Original Senator is a nice brand but it is not an historical piece as such.

The Rolex GMT, Sea-Dweller, Daytona would blow half of these watches off the list if the article was done on a proper basis.

The article is more like an info-mercial than a proper impartial analysis, but that is not surprising given the highly populated advertising on the blog.

Nice article thanks for sharing. These articles are written on every consumer product from t-shirts to cars. They have one goal to help sell the products they are written about. That is why they only feature models that are in current offerings by those brands. Still enjoyed reading it though, just cant "read" too much into it.

Good point on the Glashutte. Still, I might trade my IWC Mark XVI or Stowa Flieger for it. Always liked the look of the Senator Navigator

I can agree with the Sub and the Speedy Pro, but after that the list falls apart completely.

There is nothing at all authoritative or objective about this list.

Have to agree Steve just one mans opinion and indeed there are many brands steeped in military history like Tudor subs. Even watches from Junghans, Tutima, Glashutte, Lange & Soehne,Omega, Longines, Minerva, Heuer,Zenith,Smiths UK just to name a few.

I found it an interesting read.

The article is quite subjective, but I didn't take it to imply that it was anything else.

It's easy to agree with one and two, however when it comes to the molels IMO only the Sub and SMP should be considered. Not all the other Sub Date models and none of the other Speedmasters.

The very idea that the DJII is a living legend is absolutely ludicrous and any association with Eisenhower is preposterous.

The DJ II is not a variant of the DJ any more than the Sub Date is a variant of the DJ. It is a model unto itself.

I would have expected to see the Fifty Fathoms on any list of 'legendary' watches
