Robbed 2

Two weeks ago my briefcase was stolen from my car.Thread: "Robbed"

Late yesterday afternoon was driving with my wife in the car.We approached traffic lights to turn right.Just as I turned hand came through a slightly open window and grabbed my WG chain necklace.(No clasp, very strong) I grabbed his hand tight, engaged 1st gear and hit the gas.He slammed the tarmac hard.I made a u-turn and went back for him.All of a sudden three came from the left. They actually CAME for the car !I hit the gas hard and got the hell away.

The grabber was the decoy.Grabs the chain to get the car to stop and then the real target by the other three is the passenger side,my wife and her handbag.Luckily they had a moving target and couldn't get to the passenger door in time.

Me,wife and chain 1 Robbers 0.

This is now the second time, in 13days time.I am "slightly annoyed" !!!

Is South Africa a generally dangerous place, or are you suffering from some unfortunate luck?

Unless he was holding the ** in his mouth then the robbers would have had that too...

I think the answer is to move out of that section of town permanently!

Incredible. Closed windows. Locked doors. Knife, stun gun, I don't know. Maybe a lower profile car. Unfortunately you have to adapt to your environment to keep your family safe. You've had 2 warnings.

If the police won't protect you and your family do it yourself by any means necessary.

Or move away.

The police most often aren't in the right place at the right time to protect you. They usually end up taking a report and investigating an incident after it happens. I feel that people have the right to protect themselves should have the means to do so, as Bruno states.

Frankly I thought that RSA was a safe place. Clearly I was wrong. Guess I would have no way of knowing since I've never been there. I know that you need to watch out for amputees running around though.

It does sound like it's time to leave and relocate...it's unfortunate that living where you do has become so dangerous. But your lives are more important plus your peace of mind!!!

When I was a very young adult, I was parked in Boston (very near the bomb site, actually) at 2:30 am, preparing to drive off with a friend. suddenly the door opened and I saw the biggest [sharp weapon] I'd ever seen in my face. The passenger door opened and the same thing happened there. They demanded our wallets; we gave them. They actually just took the cash out and tossed the wallets back in the car.

Since then I have ALWAYS locked my doors soon after getting in the car and think about when/where I have the windows open.

That was 25 years ago, and I've never had a problem since, despite having been in poor/dangerous neighborhoods many times throughout the years.

I agree. If this happened to my wife and I, if I didn't immediately start packing when we got home, she would throw her stuff in the car and leave without me.

Crazy actually, was thinking about it today ....17H50 we have this attempted robbery,10min later we are sitting with our host and wife at his beautiful restaurant. The restaurant is right across the street from my property were my wife's medical practice is located.I must admit I did have a STRONG alcoholic beverage !!!

Crime is such a common occurrence affecting all here, that we get blunted to it.... and then we tell ourselves how "lucky" we are that we were not stabbed or shot ???

First words were ,felt something in my neck "Whats this??"
Cant remember this but my wife said ,I said: "youre, not @#$%$#@ stealing this !!!"

Quite amazing how fast it happens ,how very calm one can be and how the anger then boils over !!!
