Explosion in Texas

Just heard on the news about an explosion in Texas at a fertiliser plant with many casualties and much destruction.

No mention of cause, but I can't help but feel some unease in light of recent events.

My thoughts are with those involved.

Much going on lately... Horrible either way, if accident or malice.

A fire had broken out and then during efforts to extinguish - the worst...so sad for the many who are hurt and families of deceased. It leveled a 4 block area...

Firefighters had been battling the fire and evacuating nearby residences and a nursing home for about 50 minutes before the blast occurred. Many of them are undoubtedly included in the casualties.

Terrible. The victims are being taken to hospitals
as far away as Dallas. As might be expected, a lot of
Respiratory issues for many people. I hoping there are not too
many deaths and injuries, but honestly, that
explosion was huge. My prayers for all involved.

This happened on a ship in Texas City several decades ago. When this stuff ignites, it really packs a punch.

WEST is about 30 mins up freeway from where I live...

The town is devastated. City Medical Director just confirmed several fatalities ("I know of at least two because my ambulance was there before the explosion and isn't now)

The vol FF made the scene, apparently realized it was going to have to evac the surrounding nursing home, and residential areas, and one of the two fertilizer tanks flashed over (or ignited in some fashion) before they could get it contained.

Gas was Anhydrous ammonia (NOT ammonia nitrate which was used at OKC).

All of Central texas is reacting with food, shelter, and blanket drives. Its about 45 today with a sharp gusting wind..

West is about 90 mins N of Austin, about 90 mins S of Dallas. It's really nothing more than a wide spot on the freeway (IH35)

Please of course keep the responders, victims, and displaced in your thoughts...

NO indication of intentional act.

and there was no call out yet for responders. Waco and surrounding area responded from as far as Dallas and Austin

It looks like 15 people were killed, 5 of which were firefighters / EMS responders. Sad news :(
