Watching TV and listening to radio
I’ve got rid off satellite TV and I only watch whatever comes through the Roku (mainly Netflix). Also, I’m finding myself listening less and less to the radio. The corporate media control of information is so total that it becomes boring. I enjoy listen to podcasts, particularly when I drive (I download from ITunes and listen through my IPhone). At least you can choose a topic you are interested in, instead of listening to daily dose of crappola from those who decides what you and me - little people - should watch or listen to. My favorites are:
1."On point with Tom Ashbrook" 2."In our time with Melvyn Bragg" 3."Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History" Those three are the highest quality content so far I have come across in podcast medium. No pushing, in your face, obnoxious agendas here. Maybe occasional mishaps here and there but overall the shows are objective and informative. If anybody has suggestion of similar high quality podcasts regarding the currents events, science/universe, history please share with us. |

I would take you in a different direction - and one that may widen your horizons...
Take a little bit of your savings from dispensing with the dish and invest in a quality Shortwave World Band Receiver with Single Side Band. You'll hear news and content from a diverse world view.

Also, I use an iPad app called TuneIn Radio. 70,000 stations, including the major World Service shortwave entries. Use iPad connected to Apple TV connected to home stereo. Generally listen to one of many jazz/classical/talk stations worldwide, watching sports (muted on TV), while reading/posting on TRF!

I’ve found today by accident a Podcast for watch geeks at http://hourtimeshow.com I agree with Jason “This American Life” is very good. I doubt, Rodentman, that they are related to each other. George supposed to be comedian and Carl is very serious about topics he discusses.

I also prefer podcasts to the commercials, station identification and the yap yap yap of hyper DJ's trying to be funny with their ultra cool adolescent mentality on the radio.
Some that I listen to: Stuff You Should Know Masonic Central (old) Career Tools/Manager Tools News Audio books Various business related podcasts

Like the op's recommends. I'll add terry gross' - fresh air. Great pod casts.
I'm also getting sick and tired of expensive cable / fios bills and still not being able to find anything I want to watch. |
