Agree, it is a classic Rolex that embodies the true spirit (perhaps of the olden days) of Rolex.

Days when a Rolex stood for a blend of raw adventure and class... sadly missing in today's world for the most part. A watch of quality with understated power and presence.

A true classic!

It is interesting that Hodinkee calls it an "Explorer I" when in fact there was no Explorer II back in 1958 when this one was made. Ergo, it is an Explorer, period.

The one at Christie's looks great.




And I think it followed the white dial combo of the 6298 that preceded the Explorer line:

That explorer is beautiful just like any explorer. My first time to see a white dial version of an explorer 1 though surprised to see the dial is still very white with almost no patina on the dial itself unlike the precision shown below it
