The perfect vintage Rolex SS Sports trio is...?
I am seeking opinions on the best Rolex Stainless Steel Sports watch trio.
I currently have a 1969 pepsi and a 1976 Submariner, help me decide on a third vintage Rolex that will close out the sport's model collection..., Then I can move on to dress watches: -41mm or smaller... -$6,000 dollars (US) maximum

$6000 max is tough. The best watch to round out that trio would've been a vintage Daytona with a black bezel.

an explorer 2 would have sealed the deal but price is too high so i think the best would be an 1016 explorer. not only is it a sport model but it is dressy enough to be used as a dress watch in my opinion

Well, I am sort of in the same boat, I have:
1680 1675 Logically, from there, you have to go: 1665 1655 Unfortunately, you then need: 1625 1600 To complete the sports and sporty dress watch 16-hundred series watches. |

I would try a bit of green, blue or a SeaDweller but whatever you do don't start wearing dresses Alan.

A nice Explorer 2 (16550) would round it out.

I think the best trio would be a 1655, 1665, and a 6263, but you said under $6,000. So maybe a 1016 Explorer or if you want another Submariner maybe a nice 5513 Matte?

I'd like one of those too, but it's about 2X the OP's max spending limit!
As a couple of previous posters said, I also suggest a nice 1016. My gilt one cost me quite a bit less than 6K, but now (3 years later) they seem to go for more. Non-gilt would fit neatly within the price range:
