Would You Wear a Day Date in a Meeting With Your Boss?
Been thinking about the ultimate über watch for a while and have always cherished the DD. Did the whole career advancement thing, saved, etc. and have my finances in order so I think
Anyway my best friend asked me straight up if I would be comfortable enough to wear it in a meeting with my boss. Given I nowhere near a C-Level position it gave me pause to think there may be some awkwardness in my office which has me thinking of other watches that aren't as ostentatious at first glance. To those DD owners or anyone else for that matter given these times what do you think? |

Why not? It's not as if he doesn't know how much $ you make.
Would I wear one in a meeting with a customer? Only if I know he is afflicted with the WIS. |

I can think of no situation in which I would be uncomfortable wearing any watch. Safety excluded

Wear it with Pride.
My boss wers a plastic Casio. I wear my TT Datejust or my Tudor or any of my other watches, most of which are vintage and not all that valuable but still a parade of watches worth many times what his is worth. He obviously couldn't care less about watches and has never noticed what I wear. |

Of course. We all choose priorities in life, and a nice watch is one of yours.
Your boss may spend thousands and thousands a year on model trains or RC planes or stamps or rare books or wine or . . . You get the point. Wear and don't worry. |

If I had a boss and a DD, which I don't, I certainly would.

I can see the reservations to not wanting to wear one. The better question is do you think that he would judge you for wearing one and if so do you care?

Yea I had a feeling the sentiment would be no worries. I've been considering the WG model which looks a bit subdued and I happen to like it. I'd love a platinum DD but my wallet does have its limitations hahaha.

There's certainly a place for tact and managing perceptions but in general you need to be yourself and be proud of your accomiahment. IF your boss even notices it you might find he's impressed by it. Having a DD may communicate traits that he finds worth noting. Hardwork, commitment, attention to detail, appreciation for quality, etc.

It doesn't bother me, or my boss. Who knows, he may wear bad clothes, drive an old car and have a half million dollar boat. It's up to you how you spend your money.

This is so situational that we can't give an answer without knowing more about OP's job, his goals, how he is viewed in his peer group, and more about his boss. What might be right in one's position may not be right for another.
