Rolex Hunting @ a pawn shop

Saw a Milgauss GV in one Thursday night - of course it was on TV and on Rick's wrist...

went to Nationals game (rained out), but saw blue TT sub, that looked majestic in person. saw a few others, but could only recognize the oyster bracelet.

did see a young guy with a girl's wrist wearing a Planet Ocean, that looked really cool. totally underestimated the PO.

There is just something about trying on a fine timepiece whilst a crack addict is waiting behind you to pawn a lawn mower he just stole. Come on man it's a snapper gimme 50 bucks! What I also don't understand is why people get pisssed off that pawn shop never pays a lot of money. Imagine if some random methhead knocked on your door and wanted to sell you an electric can opener. I don't think You would offer him more than 2 cents too. Thank you come again.

I have never been in a pawn shop in my life. However, if they were not filling a need, then they would be out of business. Anyone, buyer or seller, has the right to say, "No, thank you" and leave. It is sad if someone gets ripped off, but customers cannot always be protected if they are ignorant of the value of an item.

a pawnshop near me bought a 18kt rolex from a dude, they thought it was stolen so they didn't pay shit for it they said. the guy ended up getting shot before he could pick it up, but it wasn't reported stolen so it's been sitting in their safe for years. I mentioned it and im probably going to get a pretty good deal on it.

Greg, deal or not I would pass on that one. Too much awful and dark energy associated with it.

Everything I own has dark energy associated it from the blood diamonds on my fingers, to the shoes i'm wearing made by practically enslaved children, to my cell phone made in conditions so bad, they have to put suicide nets on balconies so people don't kill themselves from being overworked. instead of marking everything MADE IN CHINA it should have MADE BY SLAVE LABOR on it instead.

point being, some low life criminal who had to sell his watch and got shot doing his shady endeavors a few weeks later, won't make me lose sleep at night.

I'm a little late to the thread but two things
1) In Ohio; the law is on pawn broker's side. If a pawn broker buys stolen goods... the owner still has to buy it from the pawn shop. ie no risk for a pawn shop. Side note: they are to check police data bases for the serial number of stolen goods but many many items lack serial numbers... which releases of liabilities of it being stolen.
now part B: The thief just needs to pawn it before the owner reports the serial number stolen. As long as the pawn shop checks the serial numbers prior to buying (and no record shows up) they are clear to buy it with no recourse.

2)Since Rolex doesn't release a master list of stolen watches' serial numbers. The chances of buying a stolen watch exists at any and all pawn shops. Or possibly even see a fake one in their cabinets.

With that said: I would never buy anything from a pawn shop without thinking I might have just bought someone's stolen goods.

Buisness is cutthroat and brutal --- personally I do not care for your loss. As a buisnessman, it is all about my gains .... that's how the world works and
pawnshops operate on that principle .... I would hate the pawnshops to do it to me, but I understand what they do and why they do and I fully agree with them...

Its always difficult when you HAVE to tar every PAWN shop with the same brush however for every good one I will show you 100 bad ones...A senior officer in Federal law enforcement is a family member and he will tell you just how much crime is fueled in this country by the ease of Pawning stolen items...this is legal fencing in the vast majority of cases...just ask anyone in the business of crime busting...
