Icon5 Vintage 7032/0 "Home Plate" Tudor; Worth Restoring?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161044967417...84.m1423.l2649

Any estimates on how much $ would have to go into a project like this to bring it up to snuff?

The lister says the case has not been opened, but the movement does work.

Thanks much to all Tudor gurus!

probably a 7-10k watch when done, definatley not gonna make a bunch flipping it right away. the watch is probably going to sell for far more than 5k as well.

A decent 7032/0 will run $21-22K and that is for one with nice but not perfect dial. A pristine one will run $25k or so but also next to impossible to find. It will be interesting to see what this sells for but the dial doesn't look bad. The watch will need a new crystal, pusher and whatever other basic parts due to service. Also you would have to source an Mk1 pusher and perhaps better original bezel which wouldn't be an easy task. Also the lower part of the minute hand would bug me. I don't think it is too much of a project looking at pics quickly. If cleaned up and serviced and rust removed etc. you could have a killer rare watch...Go for it!! Cheers,

PS. Aso seller says case has been opened and movement clean as a whistle and in excellent condition.

Thanks for the opinions and observations. Quite a bit of variance in the estimates there: $7K to $20+K (if it can be rebuilt properly).

If anyone has any additional observations or repair cost estimates, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

$7k isn't even enough to get one a 7159 and $20k plus as I said is accurate.

Hard to give estimates without knowing exactly what needs done. You should reach out to a capable watchmaker like Rikki and share with him. Your biggest problem would be sourcing period correct parts like an MK1 pusher, matching minute hand, bezel(if you chose to replace them) etc. The cyclops 128 crystal would be fairly easy.

I would be inclined to listen to Ken, and I have seen them run as far north of 20k to 25k

I am on my phone but from what I can see briefly this would worth the effort in my opinion. It's not in bad shape and considering how rare the home base plate model is, and assuming the price will be well under 20k, I think it would be a great buy. You would be hard pressed to find a decent example MKI for under 20.

The price is closer to $20,000, not $7,000, as Ken noted in another post. Also, the minute hand should be easy to repair, or buff out, based on my experience. The discoloring from corrosion looks to be minimal from the posted photo on ebay.
