YM2 SS versus Cellini Prince Rose Gold - DILEMMA
Hi Everyone,
Several years ago I promised my wife that I would purchase her a Cellini Prince in Rose Gold when she finished her masters degree. I guess time goes by fast and she has graduated and is getting pushy now :( Unfortunately, the year I committed to getting her the Prince, Rolex comes out with the new YM2 SS and it is awesome looking ! Problem is I only have a budget for 1 watch this year. Do you guys think the YM2 SS will be a limited production watch like the SS Daytona ? Historically are the watches that are released at Basel World added to the permanent collection or do they just put out a limited quantity ? Do you think any AD's will discount the YM2 SS when released or will they be selling for list ? Any thoughts on the Rolex Cellini Rose Gold ? My local AD quoted me $14,500 for the Cellini Prince in Rose Gold Not sure what to do...Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chuck E. |

Dude...
I bought my wife three rollies. I know I would have been happy buying myself a few more instead... But mental torture for the rest of my life would have been a consequence... |

If you made a promise to your wife, you need to honor it. No two ways about it.
The SS Daytona never was a limited production watch. Chances are if you wait until next year to pick up the SS YM, you will either be able to get a discount on one from an AD or find a pre loved one in good condition at a good price.

Buy the watch for your wife. That ss will not be hard to get in a year or two.

First. where did you get the idea that the SS Daytona is a "limited production" watch? It is not. Second, you will not get a discount on a SS YMII for a year or more until the demand dies down. Third, you made a promise to your wife...you know the right thing to do.

Yeah......I would feel pretty crummy sporting a YM2, when the wife has nothing -- especially after she achieved such a big milestone. You know what to do, my friend.

I'm hard pressed to imagine anyone would advise you to buy YM this year. First you would break your word to your wife and secondly you would buy at full retail since it is new watch.
Despite what your AD may have told you neither Daytona nor YM are limited production watches. They will be in Rolex lineup for years to come. Try talking with trusted sellers here to see if you can get your wife's watch at more reasonable price. David, Oscar and others may be able to get you better deal. |

Trusted Sellers
How do I go about finding a trusted seller online? Also, who are the people you mentioned in your last post (David, Oscar) ?
Anyone have an idea what a rose gold prince should go for ? Thanks, Chuck E. |

Keep your word and by your wife's watch first. In a year or two the SS YM will be sitting in the cases and dealers will be happy to get rid of stock with a nice discount just to move a piece.

YM2 SS will still be here next year and you have a better chance for a discount and finding it second-hand next year.

Really? It would be one thing to not be financially in the same position you were in when you made the promise, but the fact that its because you want to put your own selfishness ahead of your word kinda says a lot don't you think? No offence but you asked. |

I agree with all the comments, get your wife a watch but personally, I wouldn't go the Celini route. I know it's off topic but take a look at other gold watches form the main Rolex line like the DD/DJ or Daytona. Celini is really bad value for money IMO (although it depends on which one you're after).
