I doubt the supplier can paint 800,000 dials per year. Regardless, Rolex dials are among the best at any price. I think that dials are the only area in which OMEGA truly lags behind Rolex (sorry, OMEGA fans, my honest opinion).
For example, to get an enameled dial with a Speedy, you have to buy an expensive limited edition model, whereas all Rolex sports models (save the Platty, blue Sub) are enameled, a process that I absolutely LOVE. |

Some MOP dials are coated with "Goldust"© to enhance the MOP structure. A thin layer of the MOP is removed to show the structure better, and this is done by hand. Afterwords, the gold is applied to the dial. Otherwise, normally Rolex dials are not "handpainted" as such.

Nothing is hand made in Rolex, IMO, unless sometimes the polish of the cases, but they are done by robots if im not wrong. The only things that are made by hand, again if im not wrong, is the put in of the movements, oiling, assembling, etc...

We had a similar discussion few weeks ago and most of the members actually stated that generally nothing is hand made and i start to believe it. I mean rolex has 3000 workers and they manufacture somewhere around 800.000 movements a year. Do you think these people are able to assemble the movements cause the working staff is so small compared to the movements that are produced. Honestly i believe that the only part where the is human interference is the quality control. Personally i believe that rolexes are a mass produced watch but they have a special way of maintaining a good quality and reliability cause that's their image after all and that's how they became known.
