Power Reserve Mechanism

Hi everyone

I'm interested to know how many of you would like to see a power reserve indicator on Rolex watches. A pretty handy function for those with multiple timepieces.

Granted, it's probably more useful on a movement with 7 days power reserve than it is for one with 48 hours, but it's an innovation that surely has to find its way into the Rolex world.

We may well see it on Tudor first.

Its a function I like quite a bit. My favorite is the way Panerai does it on the back of some watches with either a small lever type hand or a simple dot that changes color as you wind up a watch.

I have an 8 day and it is fun to watch the little fang move across the dial. I also have a 3 day manual and I can say that it is a pain to wear in a rotation because I sometimes forget to keep it running. I wish it had an indicator on the back.

I would not advocate any kind of dial for a power reserve on a Rolex though. I don't think it would look right. I like unique and different watches but I like that Rolex adheres to their history pretty closely.

Cannot see the point on any automatic watch IMHO its a complete waste of a complication. Now on a manual wind it might be a little bit more useful, once you have fully manual wound a Rolex then if worn for around 12 hours a day.Any Rolex watch should be fine and have enough power reserve, if not its always wise to manually wind once a week.Complications are fine but once you add more, the more things can go wrong.Rolex movements are plain and simple and have worked well for decades without many complications. So to add any complication for complications sake IMHO is a complete waste of time.

I have often wondered why manufacturers put a power meter on a watch (auto or manual) that has a PR of less than 48 hours.
You would have to wind the manual every day and the automatic every day if you are not wearing it.
I do like it on the IWC 5001.

I think it would be useful on a manual wind watch, but prefer automatics without that complication. It can be a cool look on the dial if properly implemented, but sometimes seems to get thrown in as an extra that clutters things up. I like it on the back for Panerai watches to preserve the minimalist aesthetic, for example, but like it on the front for watches like the Glashutte Original PanoReserve and PanoInverse models.

PR on an automatic with less than 7-days? Pointless IMO.
