SS Date 1500 Serial Number 418----, from 1974-ish. My old man passed away and I found this amongst his stuff (he was too sick to wear the last 5 years or so).
Picture is in my avatar. If I get the chance, I'll post a bigger one. The watch brought back wonderful memories from my childhood -- "Look how it sweeps rather than ticks, son" -- and so I came to TRF to learn as much as I could about it. In the process, came to realize this place is pretty neat. That JJ guy is HILARIOUS! I currently have my watch on a strap -- Dad's aftermarket bracelet was nice, but, let's just say very 70's |

Hi all. I have a Explorer II that I received from my wife in June as a 10th anniversary gift.
I also purchased a Marathon SAR after seeing it on this forum. A tank of a watch and a Canadian company too....I guess I'm a patriot at heart.

Sean, buying that Sub caused me more pain than I ever knew, mostly b/c it's such a beauty to give away!

Hello All:
I'm a 37 year old mechaincal engineer from Pennsylvaina. I've always loved Rolex, but never thought I'd have the means to own one. My everyday watch was a Seiko Windward that I bought myself as a college graduation presant and I wore it for 7years. It was beginning to look a little weather-beaten and my wife suggested that we get me a new watch for my first Fathers Day present after the birth of my son in 1998. We happened into a Rolex AD and looked around a bit and quickly decided that we were in no position do spend several thousand dollars on a watch. The sales lady must have seen the saddness in me and asked me to wait around for a few minutes. SHe disappeared into the back and returned with a different watch. She explained that "Rolex wasn't allowing them to sell these anymore and this is the last one" and that she'd be able to give me a good deal. She opened the box and revealed a TT Tudor Monarch quartz. I fell in love. . .and left with the watch. I've worn it every day since June, 1998. Well, nearly 10 years later (this past December), I went back to the same AD and ordered myself a fine Christmas present. It'll be here in late February and I'll post some pics once it arrives. Here's my Tudor |

My story;
Don't have a great story, just like mechanical artwork. Own a bunch of watches including the ones shown here. The Tag is in the picture because it is a limited edition single digit out of 5500. I probably won't wear the Milgauss and I am still waiting for my SS Daytona to complete the collection because I have just about everything else. |

Gday! Dont spend a lot of time on the computer to get fully into forums but i think TRF is great when info is needed! I am one hundred percent addicted to ROlex...This started with my Dads sub5513 always liked it from since i can remember, when i was about 18 i off handedly said to him "you may as well give me that boy seen as your getting to old to enjoy it" and to my surprise he did!! From then on i have been hooked!!
So far i have 4rolex, 2 subs 1 SD & an expII. Also have a tudor hydro, omega speedy manual wind & plenty of seikos citizens tissots etc. They dont get much love as I struggle to get past my rolex's. My wish list is long i have a milgauss GV on order and am heading to singapore for a noodle and rolex buying trip in May. From NZ originally live in OZ work as a firefighter full time and lifeguard part time, all my watches get put through their paces at work and on the beach surfing diving etc.. Will put pics on eventually just need to figure out how.. Cheers Monkey |

My real fascination with watches started when I got a Tag for my 30th birthday. After that I started looking around at the different watches out there and found the Rolex Submariner. Since then I have always dreamt about owning one and spent a lot of time gazing through the AD's window.
I found TRF in December and signed up straight away. The info here is amazing and it was nice to meet other people that were equally passionate about Rollies. Three weeks ago my dream came true when I purchased a kermit. |

Sadly the Tag doesn't get much wear at the moment. Kermit has stolen the limelight!

Not quite sure what qualifies as a newbie but here's my first and second. There's a 10 year gap between the two
Then I found TRF and the wheels fell off.. A GMT c and 2 x Pams and a Zenith El Primero followed. And its all TRF's fault!!!!!!! And now I'm looking for a Speedie Damn you TRF |

New member 12/07, Have owned various TAG Heuer watches since 1984 when they sponsored the Mc Laren F1 team with Lauda and Prost, aquired Breitling Aerospace in 2003, never really thought a Rolex was in the cards until my wife said she would like at DJ. So for this Xmas I got her a TT/jubilee Ladies DJ with Diamond marker champagne dial and myself at TT/white 'Z' Daytona. I thought that would satisfy thye hunger but now I want a GMT IIc SS/black and a Sub date in SS would also be nice..... Anyway this is a very informative and entertaining forum that I am proud to be a member of.

Joined in December....Found the site during hours of endless internet searching about Rolex.
Started with a Tag, then a Tutor...flipped that for a 1605 DJ and than flipped that for the GMT II. Would love a sub or exp II....We'll see.

Yes sir I do qualify as a newbie. Well here's my story I lust for a 16613 blackie but would settle for a ss date sub. I know there is a good one for sale here I just got to hook up with the owner.
However If anyone knows a good AD who will discount a 16613 black face and ship to me I'm all ears. I really enjoy seeing your beautiful rollies. |

I too a noob! I used to go to Switzerland with my dad for holidays in the late '60s - remember being fascinated by the Rolex displays in the jewellers. So bought my wonderful AK in November - I wanted the lowest key Rolex - and as it would be most imappropriate for me to have a watch that is remotely sporty (my previous watch did have a stopwatch facility - usd to use it to time my lunch breaks...), I decided on the AK with a domed bezel and blue lume.
Very happy with it - wonderful timekeeper |
