Rolex Diamonds under microscope
Took my Datejust to work today and took some high mag pics of the diamonds on the dial. Overall, the diamonds look very good. There are a few inclusions...but keep in mind I took these photos from 10x to 75x. I believe diamonds are graded at 10X. Forgive the dirt on my lens.

Well for the diamonds of that size its not going to make a huge difference in the price grade.Rolex normally uses VS1 to VS2 or VVS1 to VVS2 stones but when bought in quantity like Rolex does we are not talking huge prices, like if it was a single stones over half a carrot and upward of same quality.

$1950 extra for 10 diamonds vs. stick dial. Comes out to $195 per diamond for an "average" .1ct diamond - very high methinks.

Very cool to see. I have always wondered about the quality of the diamonds.

Before i thought that the diamonds are stuck with the base with some kind of super glue, but from the pictures i can see the four teeth hold the diamond.

Those teeth are called prongs. Real diamonds are never glued into place.

Thanks guys. At 10X (grading magnification), the diamonds look great. There was just the crack on one of the diamonds...probably occurred when they set it. All diamonds were definitely at least VS1 quality. I don't doubt that they are VVS2 or VVS1.
The diamonds are tiny so I'm not sure if it's significant enough to notice. However, it good to know Rolex uses quality diamonds |

Cool, thanks for sharing. I really like that DJ also, the black dial makes the diamonds pop.

I agree with you. I guess the best thing you can do is not think about it too much. You can apply this to many (regular and luxury) objects in this world.

The price delta on a Sub's diamond dial is even higher. Think those are .2ct each IIRC.
