Sub Date vs. Sub ND First Impressions
Off the top of my head, these are my impressions:
SEL bracelet is not as comfortable. It feels heavier, thicker, and rattles less. Wetsuit extension took me a few minutes to figure out. I set it about 10 hours ago, and it is still spot on. My 14060M would have been fast by a few seconds by now. You can't read the date unless you are right on top of it, at a 90 degree angle to the crystal. Lume seems better. The word ROLEX on the dial seems wider, perhaps to match up better with the OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE. The new box is better. Bezel lines up dead on with the minute marks. I like the chronometer print. I want to stay up and see when the date flips. That is all for now. |

IMHO, this watch doesn't seem to be the right one for you. You don't seem to be happy with it.

We'll see how it goes. So far it is perfect, but just different from my 14060M. I will tell you one thing that I absolutely know about myself. I am a creature of habit and it takes me some time to get used to change. If I am used to something fitting or feeling a certain way, it's tough to change it up. The best example is my driver. I still play an old Titleist 975J with a prolite shaft because that is what I'm used to. If I get a new laptop I will take the time to move my old keyboard to the new system, and it has to click a certain way. I have 2 new pairs of loafer strewn in the corner of my office, and I still wear the old ones with the holes in the soles. I have a pair of boat shoes that I bought in 1985. I like to wear gray college t-shirts. I guess i'm a little OCD.

I understand you now. I think if you spend time with your new watch, you'll eventually love it. I personally love it, and you have IMO a great watch.

Ever so slightly- I forget the measurements. Did you watch the date flip? The times I've been awake I enjoyed the positive "click" from the instant change mechanism. I think you'll like the accuracy! BTW- how old is your 14060M?
And of course, congradulations!

Congrats, Ed!
Just a question: Why did you not opt for the SD??

I know what you mean about keyboards, there's nothing like a 1985-vintage IBM model M. There's no match for the buckling spring mechanism. I have about 15 of the keyboards, which I'll probly never need since they seem to keep working forever. I'm typing this on one right now, in fact.

So far I am seeing about +3s/day. I will leave it crown-down tonight and see if that slows it a bit.

You have two classic watches, both will get the time right most of the time. Wear them in good health good Mate, leave the micro seconds to Seiko |

+3 is about right for a 3135 movement in the majority of cases. Mine is +2.5 and I know of several other 3135s that are about the same.

I just popped the 14060M back on my wrist after 3 days wearing the 16610. I don't even notice the 14060m is there, whereas the 16610 is just not quite right. I'm sure this is more a function of the bracelet and not the watch. Perhaps I will switch the bracelets today.

I do happen to think that non-SEL bracelets are more comfortable as they sit a little flatter on the wrist.

I just got back from the AD. While I was there, I tried on the sub nd. It's a great, clean looking watch. It would be a great second watch for me. (Second watch, only because I do like having a date.)

I pulled another link from my SEL bracelet, then loosened it all the way. The Sub Date seems more comfortable than before.
After 5 days I am +3s total. That's pretty darned good. I played bracelet bingo this weekend. Non-SEL went on the 16610, Black NATO on the 14060M, and the SEL went in the box. I wore both subs for my commute this morning. One on each wrist. |
