Gift from my best friend
My brother and I didn't exactly grow up as best friends. It was quite the opposite. We were just very different. He was a hard working, good student and I was the wild one. So about 14 years ago he came to visit me while I was living in Phoenix. Not to actually visit me but the one thing we had in common was that we were Dallas Cowboys fans and he wanted to see the Cardinals/ Boys game. Long story short that weekend changed everything. We became the very best of friends. It was crazy how things turned around 180 degrees. Besides being Cowboys fans we are both huge Rolex fans. Me with my Sub C and Chris with a few different ones. I honestly thought I would never own more than one Rolex. I have two young daughters and money has been tight. So yesterday I get this crazy text message and its Chris telling me he wants to give me his Explorer I. I couldn't believe it. So I went over to his house and he hands it to me...box, papers, original receipt, everything. He gave me a hug and told me to enjoy it like he has. I'm still having a hard time believing someone could be so generous. The funny thing is that I love my Sub so much that I couldnt have imagined wearing anything else until now. I cant wait to wear this and think of how lucky I am to have to a big brother like Chris. A gift from my best friend means more to me than I can say. The truth is this though..having my best friend be my brother was the greatest gift of all.

That's a great story. Congrats on your watch but more importantly, finding a true bond with your brother.

Very cool! You are lucky that you have a good relationship. Many do not and a mutual hobby is great. Congrats to both. M

Congratulations, sounds like me and my brother. We didn't speak for years, not that we didn't like each other, we just had zero in common except for parents...Now we talk 2-3x's a week

That watch will be forever worth more to you than any other watch you'll own. Great story.

Awesome story. Its a great feeling to have. I too am very close to my brother. I bought my Rolex and wanted him to have something as well. I bought him a watch, used, but I knew he would appreciate it. For me was as joyful to give him his gift as it was to buy my own watch. Here is a small snippet of his letter to me.
Enjoy your watch. Last edited by vitalsignsrn; 27 August 2013 at 04:14 AM.. Reason: resized font |
