difference between 3186 and 3187 movement

I notice the new explore II and the GMT II have different movements now. Why the difference and what's the differenc?

According to my quick search using google...it is basically size to fit a bigger case....might be more to it though.

Different size :

3185/86 Diam 28,5 mm - height: 6,45 mm
3187 Diam 30,97mm - height: 6,47 mm

All movement parts in the 3187 are interchangeable with the 3186 with the exception of these 7 :
3187-100 main plate
3187-130 winding bridge
3187-270 cannon pinion
3187-280 24 hour wheel
3187-284 12 hour wheel
3187-600 date indicator seating
xxxx-xxx date indicator.

As stated above and the 3187 has the paraflex shock system where the 3186 has a KIF shock system.
