Steve, since no one else has said anything I will try. The early Tudors, say the late 50,s early 60's are almost on a par now with a lot of Rolex subs. The one pictured at the top is a 1962 model which sold recently on the fleabay for $6100 U.S.
The later 1970's models with the diamond hands sell from $2,000 U.S. to $5000 U.S., depending on colour of the dial (blue are favourite) and if it has a date or not and of course condition. The rough one in the photo below sold a couple of weeks ago on fleabay for $ 2,400 U.S.! I know nothing about the Chronos or the current Tudors. |

The question was answered on page 3 of this thread regarding the cost of Tudors. The Tudor Chronograph Oyster Dates, Submariners and Datejusts (all with Rolex markings on the case back and a Rolex crown), sold in the '80s and '90s, cost about a third of the price of the equivalent Rolex so really were fantastic value.

Did and or does Rolex make any movements for the Tudor? I thought they were Rolex cases with Eta movements.

The watch was purchased in Singapore in March 83 complete with a fixed resin (blue/black?) bezel but was retrofitted with the stainless bezel in about 1985. I have always assumed that the watch would be worth 1 or 2K and was happy to commit up to a K to clean it up. If this watch is in the same league as the 9421/0 then I am shocked and will most likely need to re evaluate it's future. Thanks again. |

tudor was made by rolex, they phased it out in the us but i believe you can still buy them in europe. the price range is less expensive than rolex.

Well I won't go into what Tudor's are worth because IMO a watch is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it but in my (not so vast!) experience there seems to be 3 ways to view the 'older, Oyster cased' Tudor brand:
1) I have read a lot of comments from Rolex owners who do not own a Tudor and they have, mostly but not always, regarded the Tudor as a 'lesser' watch and nowhere near as 'good' as a Rolex due to ETA movement etc. 2) Then there are Tudor owners who don't own a Rolex and these seem to rate the Tudor as every bit as good as a Rolex, better in fact if you take the 'bang for the buck' into consideration. 3) There are also some people (myself included) who are lucky enough to own both a Rolex and a Tudor and I really like/rate both for what they are (for example: the Tudor Chronograph has a date whilst the Daytona does not) - let's not forget that Rolex did market the Tudor brand as a 'more affordable but still very high quality timepiece' Here are some of my Tudor's: - Neil.

What is the best source for purchasing a Tudor here in the US? Also, are there fake Tudors out there? It would seem if that would be less of a problem.

I saw few times a fake vintage Tudor Submariner. And that`s one of the most expensive and sought models,so you can`t ever be too cautious.
BTW,I got three Tudors now,one of them is vintage, and I wear them very often.Especially this one,SS/WG Prince Date. |
