Icon19 PAM 538 - rose gold, blue, SLC, GMT mix

over on p.com the new PAM 538 boutique edition is getting absolutely destroyed.

what say the TRF paneristi?

(note - to provide credit where credit is due, all pix are from this thread and that thread.  )

personally, i can see how the blue dial, rose gold case and blue strap could be really stunning in real life. also, i'm not a total "DNA purist" when it comes to SLC dials, so, i don't mind the GMT and sub-seconds dial. the power reserve almost serves as a two-line counterpart to the two top lines of text. the date balances the other side of the dial.

of course, IMO, a regular SLC dial probably would have been better. i mean, the blue and rose gold is enough flash, so, the simple SLC would have been a great a balance.

at $39k, i think there are many other choices out there for me....that being said, for someone that wants blue and rose gold, this could be a nice option. need better pix and to see it in real life, though.

Well I say it's nice but not for me, still very much prefers the 231 for Rose gold rad. This is a little too busy for Me.

One thing to note is that the dial resembles the rolex sunburst Alot?

The purists are up in arms. I really don't care for it as the dial looks rather odd. It is obvious that the brand is going in directions that were unforeseen and apparently unappreciated by many. The price tag is also outrageous. As far as I am concerned Panerai is allowed an occasional mistake I believe this is one of them.

I think it looks ok but for that kind of money, I'd rather buy another car haha.

I'm sure my 233 was sticking out like a sore thumb last weekend but that's alright, I love my 233, even if it isn't "historical" per say.

Having said that, I can't stand the 538. The worst offense is the rails / train-tracks around the sub-seconds dial. It might not be so bad on another brand (like many chronographs) but the "trackless" dials of most [historical] Panerai are what make Panerai... Panerai

I'm obviously not shy of complications - my 233 is proof of that. But with the SLC - the "cleanest" of all dials... no, no, no...

That blue dial should be reserved for a Platinum or White Gold watch only. The Rose Gold can't pull this off. Panerai must have known that this was a bad ideal when they were developing it, obviously they could have seen this coming when they were putting together their sample board. "This is just my opinion"
