I am an avid follower of Panerai, its history, its design ethos, its community, its burgeoning in-house manufacture, and I am a proud owner of a 164 purchased new in April of this year.

My growing affection for the brand found me visiting the boutique in Paris to expand my collection by adding a Radiomir, in particular the 338 or 346.

However, I have put this endeavour on hold due to the recent revelation concerning the 318 and its movement, which has been the subject of great conversation among collectors both on and off the Internet. I am of the opinion that the unfinished movement represents, at best, a horrific lapse in quality control, and, at worst, a cynical rip-off by Panerai of its avid collectors. The movement shows a complete lack of pride in the brand and complete disrespect for the consumer, and it has affected my impression of all other products offered by Panerai. Indeed, I find it difficult to enjoy my current 164 knowing what the brand apparently stands for.

I simply cannot, in good conscience, purchase another Panerai without the situation being rectified by Richemont. I hope that this situation will be addressed and this "black eye" removed from the Panerai world.

We get it, you want the movement to say Panerai. You made your point in the last post, must we keep reading the same thing.

I for one don't think it is that big of a deal,but for some, their panties are all bunched up. Look at the 3135, it is a time proven reliable movement, but it is not easy on the eyes. It is a ugly movement but it is reliable, much like the movement in the 318. I do agree that Panerai should have finished it, but what's done is done, who cares.

The 318 is a tool watch IMHO, just like the sub, the movement does not have to be pretty just reliable and easy to service.

The Rolex 3135 is an in house movement and while it is not finished to the level of a Patek or Vacheron, it is finished nicely with Geneva waves, perlage, beveled edges, polished screws and they're rightfully proud to put their name on it, none of which is found on the "exclusive OP XXIX" used in the PAM 318.

that is awful and shame on panerai for trying to pull a fast one. Great to see that panerai is replacing the movements free of change. I have been there done that with pams, cool watch but seems very common in my city. I was at a wedding and counted 8 pams!

Wow, comparing the 3135 to the 318 movement is pushing it very far from my point of view, the 3135 may not be the most beautiful movement, no decorations, simple, but it is very well finished, not like the one of the 318 which looks like a cheap chinese fake...
