Sending vintage watch to Dallas
Hey all, I posted a couple of times two weeks ago, posted one time in caps, sorry for that, new to this type of getting to know people and information. I'm wanting to send my 6200 submariner to rolex for service. Does anybody know anything about this dial, I have had several people tell me its not the rite face. When I sent it to them, what are they going to do. Will they put rite dial in. Is a 6200 say submariner on dial or not, could this dial been put in from the factory or possibly been replaced later down the road. I know this is a lot of question, just want to put it back like it was, if it is not rite...
Thanks Scott If some knows who to call, that would be Great...Also someone said it could possibly be a protype dial??? |

Scott,
You have an interesting watch.. I believe that it is a refinished dial, and I say that because there is a definite difference between the amount of patina on the hands and the dial. Also because, to the best of my knowledge, all of the early dials were the 3,6,9 Explorer dials. I think it unlikely that Dallas, or any RSC will do the work you need.. How much do you intend to spend.... If you want expert work, and an expert opinion, done on your vintage, contact Bob Ridley here Bob Ridley

Here are a couple examples of original 6200 dials. As Larry said I doubt RSC will touch it.

Should I try to find the rite dial for it. I know this could take years.

Scott,
I urge you to contact Bob. It's possible that the dial could be refinished to correct markings, if indeed they are not already. With that done, and a proper rebuild, it might be worth much more than you invest and increase your enjoyment of this early piece.. A proper restoration might easily offset any costs if you decide to sell. A poor job in almost any aspect of the required work can adversly affect its value.. Remember, an original dial is the most valuable, followed by a correct refinish, and lastly an improper dial. Or...if this is truly an original in all aspects (you really need a professional here and not a forum opinion)....you only want the movement serviced and a light cleaning of everything else and you have a gold mine on your wrist.
