Servicing Rolex Oysterdate Precision SS
My wife is interested in an old Oysterdate Precision SS with silver face which I had when I was in High School (it was a hand me down from my dad). Anyway the watch stopped about 25 years ago and has been sitting in a drawer all these while. I have a few question which I hope you can help me with:
1) Is this model, a smaller Men's Rolex SS basic watch, fashionable for women? Wife likes it but kind of find it strange for her to be wear a man's watch, although it does not look that big on her wrist. Clue me in n this woman wearing men's watches and how this old SS Oysterdate plays into the equation. 2) I would have to send this watch for a major service at RSC. Should I polish the acrylic crystal or should I put in a better sapphire crystal. What does the resale market prefer. 3) Bracelet seems stretched (some of the links seems a little loose) and is there anyway to tighten it? |

Welcome to TRF!
Nice Oysterdate! IMHO, it would fit a woman wrist very nicely, too! You cannot have a sapphire crystal added later on, I am afraid. Not sure if RSC would even touch the watch. Some, especially US RSC's won't service old Rolex watches, but you can try RSC San Francisco which is independant of RUSA (Rolex USA). As for the bracelet, if RSC cannot fix it, www.classicwatchparts.com might be able to tighten it up!

Vukota and Bo are right, in my opinion! Lots of women are going around with 40mm sports models on, so 34 or 36mm models should present no probem at all. Love that folded bracelet, BTW, and Welcome to TRF!

He's a relative of yours I bought for my wife. Bought as a fully restored piece from an independent watchmaker with a parts account. Darn thing keeps better time than any of mine, including my Omega Coaxial.

I think it would make an excellent ladies watch. As to servicing, if RSC would do it I'd say they will force a hands change at least, possibly the dial as well.
Saphire is a no-no on watches with acryllic as original. I think I would try one of the independents, San Francisco--415-982-9830 Chicago--312-782-7768 Good luck |

Good advice.
You might also check some local AD's who have a watchmaker on staff. They have the parts account and you might get some personalised service.. Another possibility, as one of our members stated. The nearest RSC may give you references for independents that work on vintage that the RSC will not....give them a call.

Is this watch still in production?
If not when was it last produced? |
