Icon5 Explorer II vs GMT IIc

Other than the obvious cosmetic differences aren't the Explorer II and the GMT II roughly the same watch? Both have a 24-hour bezel (the Explorer having a 24 indicator instead of the triangle) and a second time zone hand.

Is the movement different? What am I missing?

If you mean the EXP II and the 16710, essentially the rotating bezel vs. SS non-rotating. Of course dial color option on the EXP II and insert option on the 16710.

If you mean the 116710 -- a bit more. 3186 vs. 3185, Larger case, maxi-dial, ceramic bezel (24 clicks as opposed to 120 for the 16710), no color option on the insert.
Bracelet-solid polished centerlink with improved clasp with easy out feature. Triplock vs. twinlock.

The Explorer II has a FIXED bezel. Thus you cannot read a third time zone by turning the bezel as you can on the GMT II.

The Explorer II uses the Cal. 3185 movt. And the new GMT IIc uses the Cal. 3186 movts. with Parachrom Bleu hairspring.

Another difference is the Triplock winding crown on the GMT IIc. The Explorer II has a Twinlock winding crown.

Also, the cyclops of the GMT IIc is said to be anti-reflective coated.

The bracelet of the SS GMT IIc is updated, too, plus it has a maxi dial.

i can actually read the date on my gmt2c without doing the rolex salute. it must have ar coating on it because it is twice as easy to read as the other ones.

Thanks for the information guys. As I said, the only thing I can tell right off is cosmetic. I thought the movement was different, but unsure. I did not know that the bezel was fixed on the Expy. I saw a black and a white dial i the display window off a local AD SUnday evening. It was the first time one had ever caught my eye.

The only other odd thing was that the AD had left the watches in an exterior display window after they closed. I think someone forgot to clear out the display before they went home.

The rotating bezel and interchangeable bezel inserts make the GMT II [16710] much more versatile, IMHO. Having said that, the Exp II is a classic in it's own right.
