Bezel moves on its own

This is strange. My submariner bezel is moving round on its own. It is only one or two clicks but it never done it before. This is when it is worn. The watch was serviced last year.

Anyone has this themselves?

Possibly the spring inside the bezel is worn out. That happened with my sea-dweller. Not a big deal to fix, the spring is very inexpensive.

It was only serviced last June and had a new bezel.

Hmm...Bring it back to the service center. I still think that something wore out with the spring, maybe it was bent, or part snapped off.

Does your watch have YES, NO, GOODBYE and the full alphabet on the dial?

The spring has a curvature, and maybe the curve has become weak so that it does not catch the bezel clicks every time.

It's an easily solved issue and should be able to be fixed while you wait at the AD.

??

Surely the spring would have been replaced with the bezel (especially if it is worn).

Unfortunately, it would mean sending it off back to Rolex (in London). No work is done at the AD. It makes a click everytime when I go straight from the 12 o' clock position to the next click over.

I don't want to take it in and find I need to spend more money. The last service was £550. Would the spring be part of the new bezel one year guarantee?

Don't you have ANY AD nearby?? As stated, it is an easy fix.

Anyway, it should also be covered by the RSC 1-year guarantee.

Question: how old is your Sub, and what needed to be done with it at the RSC service since it cost you nearly the double of a normal RSC charge of approx. £ 280??

If you had it serviced less than a year ago, it should still be under warranty. Take it in. There is also a "do-it-yourself" section in the FAQ part of this board. Maybe you just knocked it loose...

New dial, crystal and bezel. It is 20 years old.

Lovely 168000! The first Rolex model to use steel 904L! And according to a recent post by "Padi56" Timothy Dalton wore wore the 16800 and later perhaps the 168000 Submariner in the role as James Bond (first James Bond to wear a Rolex Sub Date since the other Bonds wore earlier no date Subs).

The 168000 was made in a very short period of about only 9 months!

I noted RSC changed the Tritium dial to an SL one. Some might have wanted to keep the original dial and hands, but if you are not going to sell it later on, no harm is done, and after all you now have much better lume.

Are you shure about the bezel? It´s more normal to change the bezel insert.
When they do that I don´t believe they change the spring. I will say the
spring is broken and I´m 99% sure about that.

Nope. The RSC kept all replaced parts. The old dial was covered in spider cracks. They were worried that the dial would break up and they would not guarantee there work. I would have rather have risked the old dial but didn't give me any choice. I wasn't happy with that as the new dial was £230.

Yes, the black bezel has been replaced. The AD said they replaced the bezel (it looked new at the time). It doesn't move round all the time. It has moved round 3 times (put it back to 12 each time) in the last 6 hours. Would a broken spring make it move all the time?

Yes it will move because the spring should keep it in place.

Just visit a watchmaker and let him look at it, the spring is just a few minutes
to replace.

I agree with Jocke. It's just a click spring and they're $10 from an AD.

Here's what it looks like under the bezel.

As has been said, it's most likely that the end of this wire spring is broken and allowing the bezel to move about..

I believe Ed is refering to the Ouija Board, since your bezel was moving on it's own.

Oh, ok. The bezel hasn't moved at all today.
