Lexington AD great experience
I was recently in Lexington, Kentucky, and stopped at an AD in town, Surgener Jewelers. I had never been there before. The owner, Damon Surgener, discussed Rolexes with me for a half-hour. He had a wealth of knowledge about Rolex watches and has been an AD for about 25 years. His jewelery store has fine jewelry, of course, but it carries only one brand of watch: Rolex. The selection was great and it was comparable to the selection at The Diamond Cellar in Columbus, Ohio, which is one of the largest ADs in the Midwest.
What impressed me the most was that the owner spent time with me; answered my questions; and explained information about the Rolex brand to me. This was old school.....the type of personal service that I remember existed years ago, but not much today. I would encourage anyone who is near enough to Lexington to go to this AD and see his excellent selection. I have no affiliation with this AD and no motive other than to bring this to the attention of other members. There are many postings on this Forum by members who have had bad experiences with ADs and those stories are undoubtedly more interesting to read. However, it should be refreshing to know that there are still professional, knowledgeable, courteous, ADs that pride themselves on providing the highest level of service to their customers. Surgener Jewelers is one of them. |

The experience at the single location "mom-and pop" AD's is consistently better than the chain stores, IMHO. I had a great AD in the Seattle area.....dealing with the owner, or co-owners is really a treat.

As an ex-Ohioan I think it boils down to southern hospitality of the Bluegrass.
Thanks for sharing Harold. dP

It is great to hear about good experiences. I have nothing but praise for the AD I've bought both of my watches from, have recommended him to some people who also have had a good experience. This forum sort of reinforces the old sales adage about an unhappy customer telling ten people and a happy customer only one. I know this forum is not here to support or criticize dealers, but would the mods consider a sticky regarding good AD experiences vs bad AD's. That may help members and the newbies like myself find a good AD. I was just lucky, but had enough experience buying other luxury items that I actually went searching for an independent AD thinking I would get better service and maybe a better price. Happily I got both.

I just called Damon Surgener, he is not in today, and one of the lady answered the phone. I said thank you very much m'am. And she replied: a ha. Which put me off . Unsure what is wrong with me, but I can't tolerate that "a ha" word at all especially in business dealing ! |

TNT....You will not do business with this excellent AD simply because an employee there used an abbreviated expression that you 'can't tolerate'? Lighten up. Did you consider the possibility that she may have been juggling other things at the time you called? I know some women who do not like the expression you used ("m'am"). Why didn't you use an expression like 'Miss' or 'Ms.'? It works both ways, you know. In any event, the same employee of Surgener who you referenced was polite and cooperative to me. If you prefer dealing with a big chain store AD where they may speak superficially and up to your apparent high standards, then go there. As for me, I prefer to deal with an established 25 year independent AD; who is professional; courteous; who shows southern Bluegrass hospitality; who has a great selection of watches; and who knows his product as well or better than anyone I have met.....which I why I bought my DJ from him, rather than from Jared's or any other chain store.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Dan Pierce. Southern Bluegrass hospitality. I love Lexington.
