The GMT Master II is rated to 300m so i wouldn't worry :) Ive dived with my 16610 Sub which is rated to the same depth. It is a 2008 and hasnt been serviced since. It held up perfectly all the way down to 100m. Ive been diving for some time just for pleasure ! It is extremely addictive and believe it or not, it is what got me into dive watches (''Rolex'').

Been certified for approx 40 years, unless you are an excellent swimmer, you should have some training and not by those who are anxious to get you in the water and get the meter running. My .02

I am a certified advanced diver and dive with all of my watches. Assuming you are diving with a reputable dive shop you should do so basic training first. I wouldn't worry about the watch. I would be more concerned about getting proper training so you continue to function correctly. Scuba is a great sport but you need to know what you are doing.

Diving can be addictive. Miss those days. I can no longer dive because I can't pass the strict medical check.
Generally when you do courses they start you off in shallow water or a pool. I did my basic and advanced training with PADI. They never take you too deep at first. Safety safety safety was stressed above all. Never saw a barracuda -but diving with sharks was interesting! And Moray eels. I forget what brand of dive watch I had in those days. A Rolex would have been nice. |

Won't be a problem as long as your GMT is waterproof to it's normal rating.
As a first time scuba diver, if you go on a "discover scuba" dive, they won't take you deeper than about 10m (30ft) anyway.

Not to go off course here but, why put a trip crown on GMT, and on the explorer you get twin crown. Doesn't make sense .

It's been years since I've been, but once, while diving in Monterey, I reached neutral buoyancy at 76'. The water got dark and cold fast. Visibility was about three feet (Pacific coast in February). I got hit hard from behind, and it wasn't the guy I was diving with--this thing slammed me. Shark, seal, grouper(sp)...I don't know, but it knocked me into the sandy bottom face-first. Snorkel, face mask, regulator out...totally disoriented. Got it together; located equipment, and gradually reached the top. The only time that had ever happened to me. Enjoy yourself. You will love it
