I'm pretty easy going. If she wants it, she can have it.

My wife took a liking to my old Explorer 1 but when I tried to "make it her's", she declined the offer. She wants something else but hasn't figured out exactly what she wants. She's not disciplined enough for an auto so a quartz will fit her watch-wearing-profile much better.

I suppose I should be thankful - I sold that Explorer and purchased a new 116710BNLR. I'm not sure I would have made the purchase otherwise - would have likely gone for a new, "pre-loved" GMT. Either way, she was OK with the decision.

I wish my wife was into watches like me....I would love for her to wear mine.

I have "my" car and my husband has "his" car, but in reality they are "ours." Obviously we each store personal gear (e.g. music, accessories) in our cars, so I would ask before taking "his" car. I suppose if my husband were a reckless, irresponsible driver who has a tendency to crash cars I would say "no," but I wouldn't say "no" just because my car is "mine."

If the OP's wife were irresponsible, then of course he would be justified in saying no. I inferred, however, that he thought that his watches were "his" and he didn't want anyone else to touch them.

I'm not keen on a wife appropriating her husband's daily wearer, but if he had a watch in the safe that he wasn't wearing, and that she would like to wear (absent unusual circumstances, such as a vintage Newman Daytona that he was keeping for investment purposes), and she weren't irresponsible, I would say, why not?
OK, my bad. Let me rephrase myself. Maybe not "abusive" or "irresponsible", but not pay as much attention or give as much care as the OP would like. I am not married but from my own experience with prior and current relationship, I would seriously bang my head if my watches look anywhere near what their watches look like.
