The YMII is a great watch for a yachtsman.

The Aquanaut is a fine watch for anyone who can come up with the cost of admission.

I'd pick the Aquanaut in a heartbeat.

The Patek no question.

I do not like the Yachtmaster II at all.

I would take anything besides a ym2. I have no interest in them.

If you're making me choose between these two then I choose the Aquanaut. Both these watches are nice, but are my least favorite models from these two manufacturers.

Love the Aquanaut so that is what I would go for.

Nautilus would make it an even easier decision :D

What about something from the Ulysse Nardin marine collection? Seems they don't get much love on this forum. The history of the company is solid and the designs are remarkable.

I prefer the Rolex in most cases. If I had to choose (already owning Rolex btw), I would go with that Patek. I like the simplicity of the dial (not so much the band), and would love to have one in my line-up.

Aquanaut?......... Nope!
Don't get it with this particular Patek Philippe design. It reminds me of an Accurist I owned as a schoolboy in the 60's. (Patek Philippe say the design is 'suprisingly modern'...........Hmmm.
I totally get the 'understated look' thing, but, remove the makers name from the face and it would, I'm quite sure lose it's 'magic'. Whereas the Rolex Y-Master (apologies, can't spell yacht) would still look a very special bit of kit.
That said. I don't think I'd buy the YM, far too blingy for me, not to mention
feintly absurd as I don't race, or even own a sailing boat, but, as I also don't
own or fly a Pan Am Boeing, but have worn a GMT since 1974 I'll abandon this line of thought!!
PP do make some exquisitely beautiful watches though, and if you want understated quality, the Calatrava pieces are gorgeous.
I would suggest that if it's a rugged, capable but relatively understated tool you need, the Blue Black GMT would seem to fit the bill.

Regards,
Hilts.

Have the Aquanaut, don't have a YMII. So obviously I went with the 5167A.

Easy choice for me, the PP...

I have a love / hate relationship with the YM2...lovely watch but I don't have the wrist size, the wealth, or the presence to carry one off. If you have wealth, it oozes class, if you don't, it oozes brash. I don't!!

The PP is understated and classy on everyone...I was saving for the Nautilus, but sorely tempted by the Aquanaut as I don't know anyone who has one, where as I have a couple of friends with a nautilus.

Between the 2 listed, I'll choose the YMII. Preferably in yellow gold. I'm just wondering how our answers benefits the OP

I liken the Aquanaut to, say, a Mercedes C63 estate. On the surface it looks like an unremarkable, small estate, then you find out what's going on under the bonnet (hood) and then it looks a lii...ttle more desirable.
What IS going on under the bonnet of the PP-Aqua?

PS. Has it stopped working?:biggrin

A few have alluded to this being an interesting comparo, the only thing in common is they are both likely to have strong supporters and protagonists. The PP is one trying to be completely low key, where the YMII is probably the most showie of any Rolex. For me the Aquanaut is next on my wish list and the YMII would not make my top 1000 wish list, I respect that a lot like it but it is not for me. The Aquanaut or Nautilus whichever can be had for good value before the ALS closes out my wish list.

Neither. I used to think I would love the YMII, but I came to realize that it would only work for me if I raced sailing ships. I also dislike the fact that Rolex has to give all their watches names and put the names in prominant places on the watch. For me the Nautilus is the PP I want.
