F1 - US Grand Prix Austin, TX - Who's Coming??

Planning to be there Sat and Sun--who else will be in town for this great F1 US race?

Will post pics here throughout weekend as well.

Hope to see some of you at the race.

Wow surprised not more attending this year.

I'll be there the whole weekend--so mini-GTG anytime.

I can tell you what will happen:

Mercedes qualify well, but don't stand a chance in the race. Webber has another KERS problems or is called in for an extra stop, while his unchallenged teammate cruises to another easy win.

Hope the weather holds - looks like small chance of rain.

No predictions other than the fan dances and flea circus in the garages will continue as people jockey for next year's slot.

Hope all going enjoy it - I'm for the TV seat myself.

Unfortunately I'm on a different continent, but I'm looking forward to watching it on TV. Coverage of qualifying starts at 0430 here!

However the race weekend pans out, I'm savouring the roar of the normally aspirated V8 engines before the switch to turbo next year.

The Grid for tomorrow is not a surprise in Row 1: VET - WEB

Some good showings from other teams though.

Enjoy the race.

Well, predictable outcome.
(Grosjean is beginning to show what he is capable of)
Vettel now has to win the last one to match Ascari's '9 straight win record'.
..and of course, Schumacher's 13 wins in a Season.
Can he do it? You'd have to say he is in there with a good show.

Yes, the result was somewhat predictable, unfortunately even down to Webber's suboptimal run to the first corner.

Yes Julian, it makes me think that maybe it is simply an age thing - we all know how sportspeople from all sporting persuasions seem to drop off the cliff after about 35yrs. and yet Mark is still so consistently fast. I don't get it. Unfortunately one of the things that will be remembered about Mark is that he was a 'poor starter' - which is a shame as 'weight for age' he was so good in so many other areas.
I always think he was just unlucky to be in F1 at the same time as Vettel and 5 other World Champions, and be a bit older as well.

I'm sure being on the dirty side of the track, off the racing line in the second grid spot didn't help his cause either.

I agree with with you Rocky, in that modern F1 seems increasingly a young man's realm.

Proud Australian and Mark was very good if not great, when he was at his best he was probably at Williams (when they were in decline) or against DC at Red Bull early on. History will show by the time he had the best car he was no longer quicker than his team mate, whether it was ageing, whether he could not start (don't remember that being a big issue early on in his career) or whether he is just out classed by a better driver (a superstar) nobody will ever know. He threw away a World championship when he crashed in Korea in 2010, he was trailing Vettel who's car blew up, had he stayed on the track (would have been in the lead) in that wet race he would only have needed a few points in the last two races, instead he trailed Alonso in the last race and Vettel no longer needed to help him (indeed benefited by Alonso trying to cover him).

At the end of the day none of us on this forum, unless Alonso, Vettel, Kimi, Hamilton or Alonso are here have been as consistently quick over the last 10 years. But for now it is time to go and he has made plenty of money doing what he loves all credit to him, and respect to Vettel, like Senna & Schumi, his talent will always be challenged by his ruthlessness on track to his team mates and opposition.

It had rained over night. Really was no better side as rubber had been washed down on the line. You could tell from others on "dirty side" of track further back who made better launches than their "good side" grid mates.

I think it was just the 2.5msec better reaction time difference in the other guys?

Would love for F1 to implement electronic RT's like NHRA has and we'd know who had the "hole shot".

Fanfest, David Coulthard, and yes the sky is Orange because God loved F1 in Austin too (and happens to be a Longhorn, which doesn't seem to help our football chances, but :-)

I didn't know about the overnight rain. It does appear that driver input was the differentiating factor at the start line!

lavaman, great photos!
