Difference between what I really like and what is more popular.

Asking which model more like between 116622 and 116613 two forum friends told me one oh they that he likes the YM but it seems that is not a popular watch forum and another friend chose not to model but also told me that the YM is not very popular and don't know the reason.
The question is there are a difference between believe there may be popular and they really like.
Once I happened to buy a Panerai and consulting in the forum by a large majority advised me a model of this brand but almost a year later, I wanted to sell and cost me a lot and lost a lot of money aside. That's why I'd bring clarify this issue.
It is a matter of taste but I think aesthetically the YM SS and blue is more elegant than the Sub 116613 LB.
What happens is that it is also very nice to own a watch that is popular and desirable ...
Are saying?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FOR ALL OF YOU FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy the watch you want and don't give a hoot in hell what others think. You might even start a trend.

Buy the one that you like best. If you change your mind down the road you can always swap it out for the other model. An even better idea would be to get both!

I agree with Dan. I get a lot of enjoyment out of white Milgauss and I don't care it's not very popular. Get what YOU want.

Ofc its easy to say just buy what you want, but to be brutally honest we are all affected by other people's opinions, esp those of people we respect, and so on a forum like this you will be affected and if you are on here everyday and you want to interact as much as possible then I think it makes sense to buy a watch that you both like and that will also involve you in the forum and not leave you just whistling in the dark.

Hate to disagree, mate. The people I respect also respect my decisions. Might not be a watch they'd buy but they realize one size [or design] does not fit all.
There are many collectors here who own watches I'd never buy. However, I appreciate the fact they find value and enjoyment from them. And I, by extension, get enjoyment out of that.

Diversity is what makes this forum fun....like Dan said, everybody has differing opinions, likes & dislikes. If we all had the same popular watch, this place would be pretty boring.

So you're trying to get the popular opinion about whether or not you should follow popular opinion?

The last thing I'd care about is what a bunch of folks on the Internet think. Not saying anything bad about TRF and the fine folks here but I wouldn't buy a watch based on a popularity vote. Based on the verity of watches to be found here, most folks don't either.

I buy what I like. Take the Submariner. Most folks 'round these parts think it's the greatest watch ever but, after owning a few, I have no desire for them. They're interesting to me as an iconic Rolex but I don't have a burning desire to own one anymore. I had a DRSD for a few months and the only thing I could think while I owned it was "I spent how much on a Submariner with an HE valve and red paint?" It killed it for me. I sold out, bought a GMT 1675 and was much happier.

What I'm trying to say is: don't base your purchases on what everyone else likes or wants you to have. Being different is refreshing once in a while. If you buy what you love then resale won't be important.

While I agree you buy what you like, sometimes by seeing what others like you are influenced a little. When I first saw the LV-C I didn't really care for it but the more I saw pictures of it the more I liked it and it became part of my collection and actually one of my favorites, but I bought it because I wanted it not because someone told me that's what I should buy

Both are great pieces. You may get tired of the gold in 116613, I know I do.

I buy what I like. Other people's opinions don't sway my taste, but they do educate me and allow me to gain insight into models I like. If I like a model, i seek the opinions of those who already own it.

Forums like this are great for "I'm considering these two options, what do you guys think?" and then seeing what people say.

Ultimately, you're the one who's going to wear it, you're the one spending the money, you're the one who has to live with the decision.

I love the vintage Milgauss line (the 6541 is my true grail), and would be rather disappointed to have TRF members not respect my opinion. Perhaps not agree is fine, but acceptance of diversity is to be expected by the caliber of folks represented here. Let me get off my soap box and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

It sounds a little like you're buying with resale value in mind......

This approach is perfectly fine and one could argue is sensible from a financial perspective but when you take this stance you inevitably buy the most popular watch which would be the easiest to sell and not necessarily the watch you really want or like from a visual perspective ......

The easiest watch to sell will generally be the Sub since it's arguably the most iconic Rolex out there with over 60 years of history and brand/model awareness behind it. So if you are perhaps struggling to afford your Rolex and you may need to sell in a hurry if your financial circumstances change but you HAVE to have a Rolex now....then a Sub would be the sensible option.

The YM will inevitably have a more limited demand and this is evidenced by sales figures and will in more likelihood take longer to sell on the pre-owned market all things being equal......

Most people on this forum buy what they like and I absolutely agree with them, but perhaps these same members also don't need to think as much about resale or the time it may take to sell.....

"Horses for courses" as they say...... So financial considerations apart..... ALWAYS buy what you like and do not let anyone else's opinion deter to from that approach.......

I could give a rats #%* what people think. I personally steer clear of trends and what's popular. I'm an individual and like what appeals to me. And believe me, I own and have owned a lot of unpopular items in my life.

Sadly, if get the watch "the others like" you will never hear a word or compliment from any of "them."

If you get the watch you want, you'll hear a compliment in your head every time you look at it.
