Sizing advice
Going to get my SS Daytona sized at an AD that I did not purchase from. Any advice as to what to ask or look for? I will def ask about the loctite. I have about 7.25" wrist and thought about leaving it loose but changed my mind so I will need to remove some links, currently none are removed. Thoughts? I am a bit worried about scratching to be honest...

Wouldn't worry about a thing and likely you will only need one link removed. My wrist is 7 3/8th's and I have one removed. Very easy to do yourself too if you have the screwdriver. As for loctite I have never used it in my life and never have had an issue either. I know some swear by it so if that works for you great. Again though nothing to worry about!!

Hi mate,
Congratulations on your first Rolex by the way. I purchased my first last weekend! There is a lot of talk on this forum about inexperienced AD staff making adjustments and causing marks/damage. I would imagine the reality is that there are just as many AD's who aren't watchmakers themselves but are perfectly capable of removing links without damaging anything. Just ensure you tell the member of staff your concerns before they carry out anything on it and I'm sure you'll be good to go. I was quite clear about my concerns and expectations when links needed to be removed when I purchased my watch last weekend and the AD was great! As a side note, I can highly recommend Mappin & Webb in Guildford. |

Thanks...this particular AD also does service so I would hope they have a watchmaker on premises. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Also whilst I'm sure using Loctite serves a very significant purpose I would also imagine that there are just as many who don't use it whilst making adjustments. |

Ask for the watchmaker to adjust the bracelet. I once handed over a Patek for sizing (before I started working on watches) and the sales lady scratched the bracelet to hell. Have never gone back there again and I do all my own adjustments now.

Sizing a Rolex requires a small driver and either loctite or my favorite, clear fingernail polish. The clear polish is well, clear... holds the screw firm but the bond breaks easily when it's time to remove the links.
Seriously though, I know I'm more careful with my stuff than a salesperson will be and that's probably who will do it too. Oh and if you absolutely have to use loctite, buy the BLUE "hand tool" removal version. If you use the red loctite, well enjoy your permanently welded bracelet. But seriously, you will need applied heat to bust the red. BLUE only!

I size my own bracelets, I've tried trusting in the past, but they all seem to come back with some sort of scratches. I remember my new 2254.50 right out of the box was sized and scratched and it's a crappy feeling. If you size yourself just take your time, tape off areas that can get scratched by accident, and of course, use the right tools.

Thanks Guys, in the future I will def do it myself. However, I am happy to report the sizing was done without incident or cost! The sales lady sent the watch to the watchmaker to remove one link. She did demonstrate the easy link adjustment which was nice of her since I did not buy the watch from them. Overall a very positive experience experience and took less than 10 minutes. I think I need a martini to settle the nervous system!
